Dover Handbook of Ornament

I had being introduced to this source book before. It is pretty extensive and although the illustrations can be a little on the small side it is still extremely useful in both identifying and interpreting certain architectural ornament and embellishment.

Since I quilt and do applique I am totally thrilled with this book. So many geometric shapes, combinations of shapes; various flowers, leaves, scrolls and swirls. Also sections showing how many of these shapes are applied to furniture, jewelry, frames and metal objects. This book is a great source of inspiration.

ai été un peu déçu par l'ouvrage pour dire la vérité, d'abord à cause du format de poche ce qui réduit les ilustrations à une taille timbres poste, ensuite il s'agit davantage d'un "traité" avec pour sélection de motifs des sujets qui ne me semblent pas être les plus représentatifs dans leurs domaines respectifs. Le point fort de l'ouvrage, c'est de trouver un tout en quelques pages.

Merita sei forse sette stelle. Prendetelo! Per me all'inizio è stata una necessità per un corso di incisione, poi è stato riciclato come libro di testo per un altro corso ed alla fine ogni volta che sono a corto di idee è il mio primo pensiero! E' spettacolare, lo amo anche troppo e mi dispiace di averlo consumato in fretta (scrivo sui libri e piego gli angoli delle pagine) sto pensando di comprarlo di nuovo per averne una copia tutta bella e pulita. Consigliatissimo!
