Product was defective on receipt. Quality is below average and not as advertised in pictures. Board had a bad scratch mark when opened. Magnets under pieces are not strong, will easily move if the board shakes. I raised this with Amerous support but they were unable to help even after acknowledging the issue, Even though there was an “international warranty” with free replacement/ refund offered.

I don't ever write reviews--so here goes my first one (at least I think its my first one). For years I've been using a chess set that my dad used..must be 50 years old at least. I remember filling it with clay as a kid to weigh the plastic pieces down, per dad's direction. But now that I'm playing chess online, and have the board on a turntable so I can play white and black easily, I have kept knocking over the occasional piece, to the point where its been a real annoyance so that I decided I had to get a magnetized board. This is a lovely set at a excellent price. the pieces are wood carved and, at least to me, have a lovely feel to them when held. The pieces are moderately large and carved in a classic style that I find quite attractive. The magnet on the bottom is efficient and really does hold the pieces to the board.....no more scrambling to find pieces I've knocked to the floor. Unlike so many of the items bought today, there is a real quality and feel of craftmanship to this set. The set folds in half so that it can fit into the box it comes in. Personally, I would have preferred a solid board for the chess pieces to sit on......but that is by no means a dealbreaker for me. Also, the magnetic chess pieces will have a tendency to attract one another if you stack them too close off the board....so I give them a little more space between them than I would for an ordinary chess piece. The box it comes in is, itself, is quite nice with several designs on the top and a chessboard pattern to it. It's really rather classy. On the box itself it says "Exquisite artisan carved chess" and its an accurate statement! Inside the box, aside from the pieces fit into snug fitting styrofoam, is a small booklet of chess instructions. I keep my chess pieces always out and on the board, but they would be easy and "safe" to travel with in their styrofoam holders if one were so inclined to take them on a trip. The booklet is only suitable for the very beginner as it is extremely basic and is 9 pages long. There is also a small pamphlet with cleaning instructions, a postcard with a chess theme, and what they title as an "international warranty". Not sure exactly what the latter means. But all in all even the box itself had the feel that a lot of attention had been paid to it by the seller. It cost me around $40 to buy off Amazon but now that I own it and have been using it I would have been willing to pay more given the quality of the set. So I hope my review doesn't sound to good to be true, but I REALLY like this set. I only wrote this review because I feel I got a great deal on this by a seller who knows and appreciates chess and deserves some recognition for the craftmanship. Now, if it will only help me beat my adult children who are starting to more routinely beat their dear old Dad!

Huge hit for a kid who plays chess: portable, includes an extra Queen, beautiful, easy to set up because of the magnets. Much nicer quality of workmanship and feel in my hand than I expected. Great value!

For the price paid I am delighted at the quality received. My 5 year old is taking an interest in learning chess and by now he already knows how all the pieces move. He was using an IPad and decided it’s time to let him feel a real chess board. I searched, shortlisted proper and aptly priced wooden sets and decided to go with amerous. This set did not disappoint. Pieces and board are well crafted and worthy to be given its own table. Magnetic feature is great specially for children who tend to knock of pieces out of position . The organized storage also teaches my boy to value each piece making sure each are in their proper place.
