Detroit Become Human is the latest game, and the first in the PS4 generation, for Quantum Dream. The game developer is well-known for their interactive movie-like games such as Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit). Most of these games contains QTE (Quick Time Events) which are flashing button symbols, telling you press this certain button asap or your game character will end up in grisly fate. Detroit Become Human is an improvement over the last two games. The QTE are there but nothing too panic-like. It feels more fluid, comparing to like yelling at a character in a movie for doing things you don't want them to do. The flowchart based on your decisions for the three characters are amazing. I love the idea of having different outcomes for each chapter, affecting the main storyline and for the other characters. This makes the replay value quite up there. Never play the same game twice! You also have the ability to change the chapter's outcome. Maybe you didn't like the whole chapter ended. You can replay the chapter and give the proper ending that you originally wanted. The story is pretty solid. Sometimes a little too "in-your-face" racism commentary (androids must stand at end of the bus, androids can't eat at a restaurant, etc..) Connor (detective) and Kara (a nanny becoming a protective mother) are my favourites, with the Connor storyline being my absolute favorite. Nothing wrong with Marcus. Maybe it's the whole "android revolution" storyline for Marcus when I'm expecting something different. The acting is superb! Every emotion is captured and display in the game. If there's one strong suit for this game, it's the acting. Everyone is pretty amazing here. The music is great, very movie-like quality. The cues are on point and suitable when it's there for the scene. Anyways, great game. Well worth the wait and definitely worth playing.

I had low expectations of this game, I never found the idea of androids or robots taking over the world interesting until I played it :) really makes me wonder how it could all turn out should it ever happen!

We've been waiting for Detroit: Become Human for a LONG time, since that Kara demo a few years ago (yes Kara is back... as a roughed up maid in this game). The story is set in 2038 if I remember correctly where intelligent humanoids are an integral part of society where they help with various tasks. The story, at first, follows a group of androids independently through their lives. I've had time to play for a couple hours already and here are my first thoughts on Detroit: Become Human. Look for a subsequent edit of this review when I finish the game. First of all, as soon as you start playing, you are greeted by a solid experience. This game doesn't feel half-made. It is precise, it is gorgeous, it is stunning. The mo-cap is REALLY well done, the acting is perfectly adequate... And you can love or hate Mr Cage however you want, he's got some great titles under his supervision. The graphics are especially well made with a high attention to detail and a colorful palette. Even depth of field is natural, a feat rarely seen in games. If you play on PS4 Pro, there are no custom advanced graphics options: from what I can tell, the game automatically leverages the extra power for visuals alone and not framerate (which doesn't matter for a game like this but you should know). This is, like the previous work of Cage, an interactive movie, albeit with the right amount of challenge. This is not God of War or something of this sort. You have to like this kind of games. And Detroit: Become Human takes it a step further: every choice you make matters. This is reminiscent of Until Dawn but I feel like you are more likely to lose people in this latter game than it is on Detroit: Become Human. The flowchart accessible at each check-point or in the pause menu helps keep track of what happened in a useful visual tree. The game gives a complete-ish rendering of what life would look like in 2038. The developers of the game take great care of even the minute details. The game also tries to tackle the issue of AI versus society, depicting a conjecture of what the world might look like with androids and how people would react to this whole "robots stealing our jobs" kerfuffle. While it's a fun addition that gives a bit of life to it, it's no philosophical-debates material. It's cute and interesting at best, forgettable at worst; Still a needed extra dimension. Having played a little, I got hooked since the first few minutes and am happy with my purchase. Don't know if this will turn out to be a masterpiece, but it's a good enough addition to your gaming arsenal.
