In a field of unknowns with portable air conditioners, this one is a Smart Buy.
Bought this product on Amazon after reading many, many reviews. Shopped for a couple weeks and picked 4 I thought might be a good choice. This was the one with the highest ratings, and they all pretty much said the same thing. The unit was quiet, and it cooled very well. I work nights and sleep during the day and didn't want to run my house AC during peak hours, so I got this unit for my bedroom. My bedroom is barely 200 square feet, and this unit is more than double what I need. So instead of having a smaller unit that runs more and works harder, I got a bigger unit that can easily cool the space I have it in, plus could act as a backup to cool the largest room in my house should my main unit go down. I received the unit and inspected the box, there was no damage other than normal signs from hand-to-hand shipping. I'm a fairly strong guy, about 200 lb so I didn't have a problem getting this in my house. Unpacking is very easy, cut the straps, open the top, take out the accessory tray with remote, vent hose, drainage tube, and instruction manuals, and the main box lifts off the base. The unit has handles on either side so you can grab it to lift out of the base tray it sits in. I put the unit in my bedroom, leaving the plastic and bag on it, letting it sit for well over 24 hours the way you're supposed to with any compressor based cooling system that's been moved around and possibly laid down. The instructions are very simple, only 15 pages in the manual, the user interface is very intuitive. The evaporative feature runs automatically when the unit is in cooling mode, and you can use dehumidification only if you're simply trying to pull humidity out of a room and not cool it. Two things impressed me right off, one, the unit is very, very, very quiet. Even on high mode, it's less than half the noise of my quietest floor fan in my house. Even when the compressor is running in air conditioning mode, it is very very quiet. I set the unit up in my bedroom to test it, and stuck the vent hose out the window so as to not recirculate the hot exhaust air. I turned it on, set the temperature where I wanted it, made sure the door was closed in my bedroom, and turned fans to recirculate the air in the room. The air vent which opens automatically when you turn the machine on, vents out the top of the machine. You can change the angle to have it shoot straight up, or angle it down a little bit to cool a certain area if that's what you want. It brought the temperature down in my room almost two degrees in less than 15 minutes, and was not blowing directly on the thermometer. When the unit reached the preset temperature, the compressor automatically shut off. Once the temperature came back up to the set point, the compressor automatically kicked back on and the unit started cooling once again. This is exactly what you would want in a room air conditioner like this one. However, there are a couple things you need to take into consideration when buying one of these; 1- have realistic expectations. If you live in a small space and mean to cool several small rooms, set up fans to circulate the air. This is not a central air unit and will cool the local area very very well, but without extra fans to distribute the air the cold are will sit in a relatively small area. 2- I believe the temperature sensor is located right next to the exhaust hose which makes no sense to me because that hose gets pretty hot, almost 120 Degrees. It's not hot enough to burn you or damage anything, but it does radiate warm air into the room and since this hose is located at the back of the unit, this is warm air that will pulled back into the unit to be circulated throughout the room, thereby impairing its ability to cool the room as efficiently as possible. My suggestion would be, as other reviewers have said, buy some Mylar tape or mylar blankets to wrap around the hose after you get the hose in the window. Mylar will not radiate heat through its structure, but will reflect it back at the source thereby trapping it inside the hose where it needs to be to be vented out the exhaust hose to the window. 3- other reviewers have also stated that in order to have the warranty honored, you need to register the product right away so that is what I will be doing in a couple days. Go online to the website indicated in the literature to register the product for the one-year warranty. 4- I haven't put a kill-a-watt meter on it yet to see how much it draws, but when it kicks on the light in my room barely dimmed at all which leads me to believe this unit drawers between 8 and 10 amps. I haven't verified it yet, but the fact that the unit will cycle on and off plus the fact it cools very efficiently means it should not make a serious dent in my electric bill which is why I bought it in the first place. 5- have realistic expectations. This is why I gave the unit of five star rating, it does exactly what I needed to do, does it well, and doesn't do anything I don't need it to do. This may cool off a small apartment, or main room in a small house, or a large bedroom, but it is not meant to replace central air conditioning. If you're going to run the unit for long periods of time, read the manual and make sure that all preventative maintenance is done. By this I mean, make sure the air filters are clean as this is Paramount to the unit's performance and lifespan, also make sure that before you shut the unit off you allow the fan to run for about 10 minutes to dry up any humidity that may have accumulated on the evaporator coil. 6- This 10000 BTU unit is overkill, I think this is always a good idea when purchasing one of these. Buying a larger unit than you need will not severely tax it, like it would if you had bought a smaller one to save money, and have it run all the time only to have a shorter life span (and a higher electric bill). This is a good-looking unit with contoured body panels, a little unconventional if you ask me. I would also recommend inspecting the Box before you open the unit to make sure there's no significant damage. Although these units can be transported, they do not like the rough handling they sometimes receive when individual units like this are shipped.

Very nice unit
I just received this unit yesterday. Setup was a breeze. The air flow is very strong coming from this unit. I ordered the 10,000 BTU for my one bedroom apt with a kitchen galley. This unit is very stylish and cool looking. Very quiet on fan mode but I think it is a bit loud on air conditioning. Not really bad but I think they can make this unit a bit quieter. To help the noise a bit I put a rug under neath the unit. So far I am very pleased with this unit. Still to early to see how it really runs on cooling. So far it is keeping my apt at the temperature I set. Blows very cold air which surprised me for a mid size unit. I will review again in a month. Update: Had this since last year and still performing well. No problems at all. The only negative is that it drains alot of water. Very humid in the summer where I live. I use a 2 gallon pail with the hose and have to empty at least once a day. Again all depends on how much you run this conditioner. I love the dehumidifer that is on this machine as well. Really takes out the moisture in the air. Just watch your drainage for emptying.Overall very happy with this air conditioner and would recommend buying. Make sure your buying the right size for the area you want to cool. I would buy again.

NYC Summers Certified
Upon taking the time out and doing the research this unit does deliver what it promises. We recently moved to a brownstone in Harlem in the spring and have it the master bedroom on top floor. That being said the bedroom faces where the sun rises and as you can imagine the house gets baked through out the entire day. Installing the window hose and over all assembly was a breeze (no pun intended). The unit’s dehumidification mode is superb on those humid days. We typically have the unit always running between the dehumidification mode and AC cool mode with our black out shades and it does cool the room within an hour. We typically start with the AC cool mode before going to bed (about 30 minutes to an hour) and then switch to the dehumidifier for overnight. We also have a dog and with the unit always running our throughout the day so the monthly electric bill wasn’t that high (def an energy saver). The unit paired with black out shades does tremendously help on those really hot days. Now with the dehumidification mode it does really extract the water in the room so having a bucket for the hose to drop into is highly recommended. The AC cool mode does also produce water but nothing compared to the dehumidification mode. We usually empty it twice a day on those hot humid days. As far as the noise level it’s pretty quite, our bedroom does face the street so the noise doesn’t really bother as much but it does fall into the white noise / background noise sound-range if your looking for some type of measurement. The only reason why I’m not giving the 5 stars is the fact that you do have to empty the water bucket but I guess it comes with the territory that’s hot humid nyc summers. For an overall solid performer it’s exactly just that.

Would Buy Again
1st, I live in Arizona and have a back bedroom that the house AC could never cool down enough when the outside temp got over 90. We debated over a window unit or this portable one and decided we'd like the option of easily moving it if needed (and a much simpler installation). Unit arrived on time and intact. Set up was a breeze, but NOTE: I highly recommend, as have others here, you add weather stripping after you have put up the window attachment; there were a few noticeable gaps the were letting in a decent amount of outside air. I got some of the 1" wide stripping and it easily filled in the spaces. Other than that I think it took me all of 5 minutes from unpacking to turning it on. Once it was running, it took no time at all to cool down the room, about a 20x20 space with high ceilings, much faster than I expected. An important note here regarding noise. It says its quiet, but lets be honest, its as loud as most window units I've heard but that's not such a big deal for me as I like the white noise while sleeping, BUT if you are sensitive to noise, just be ready to deal with some here; I think it's impossible to make a portable AC that's not going to make some noise, so be ready. Haven't had a chance yet to see the units impact on the electric bill, but I am expecting a bump, but for a comfortable night's sleep from June to September, I'm more than happy to pay. So far I highly recommend this if you're looking to cool down even a good size room and don't mind a little extra noise. Can't speak to quality as we've only been running it about a month, but lets hope it holds up as promised.

Great air-conditioning unit in a sleek package
We have an older house with an antiquated central air system that will not keep the 2nd floor cool when the temperature gets over 90. In lieu of adding a central air unit at a cost of several thousand dollars we decided to buy a window/portable cooling unit. I went on consumer reports and they absolutely recommend a fixed window unit but I couldn't get over the thought of a unit hanging off the back of my house. All portable units are poorly rated by consumer reports but i have been pleasantly surprised with the cooling efficiency of this unit. It is reasonably quiet and it brings the temperature in a 200 soft room down by 15 degrees in a little under an hour and maintains it quite well. The most surprising thing is how easy it is to move from room to room with additional window kits ($60 each) installed in different rooms. The auto evaporate system ensures that I will never have to empty a water bucket and at 240cfm this thing really moves some air. I plan to purchase another unit so I can close the upstairs central air vents and just run the units to cool the entire upstairs (950 sq ft). I'm waiting for my first electric bill to see how much I am saving but the energy ratings on these units are very good relative to my dinosaur main AC unit. The only downside is that the hose is relatively short and the footprint of the unit is increased by the hose attaching to the rear. I would like to see a side exhaust unit so it ould take up less space on the wall.

A Dissapointment
Update: This product produces either no water, or a lot of water, it's unpredictable. Be prepared to have a big bucket to drain into. I had what I thought was a big bucket (2 gallons), the bucket overflowed overnight! The water soaked the rug and wood floors, what a nightmare. The unit cools, but the coolest it's ever reached is 73 in a room the size it was speced for. It's never gone cooler. This product definitely does not live up to the great reviews that convinced me to buy it. And the water drainage system is a nightmare. The cooling unit itself appears to be working fine and was easy to set up. The major issue I had was with the window unit not fitting my standard Andersen 400 26.5" Windows. The answer - cut it down. This was no simple task. I used a metal edge and utility knife, cutting for one hour, then tried to finish with a sharp wire snipping tool. It cut through finally but I did get some ragged broken edges along the curves. Customer service said go to a hardware store, have them cut it! I say to customer service get your engineers designing a part that will be flexible to fit a standard size Window, or suffer the consequences of poor ratings. Absolutely inexcusable engineering and design of a window unit for a relatively nice air conditioner.

Good Unit - Terrible Venting Kit!
I'm giving this unit 3 stars because the venting kit is just terrible! Also because I thought it came with the storage cover that is in the video, and the remote doesn't have an auto function. I wanted it to turn on and off at different times during the day, but there is no function for setting time. The unit itself is quite nice and puts out a lot of cold air. I wouldn't say it's quiet, but not as loud as a typical window unit. The main point I want to make in this review is save yourself a whole bunch of frustration with the venting kit by buying a roll of "foil" duct tape. NOT regular duct tape, buy the foil kind at any hardware store. As you can see from the photos I used the foil tape to tape the vent pieces together as they have cheap, flimsy clips that don't stay together. So far I haven't had to foil tape the vent hose to the connector on the window end, or on the unit end. Although, I'm pretty sure if I move the unit I will need to tape both ends of the hose. For the price Honeywell really should up the quality of the vent kit.

It is a "snap" to install.
SW Florida New Review: Use - less than a week. I am a window A/C user for decades. Our window A/C broke causing extensive water damage. "Let's try a new thing." A Honeywell was our choice! Conclusion: Pros: I believe this A/C would work more efficiently with greater consistency of temp, if used in a single-wide open living space. Con: Not perfect for "evenly" cooling two adjoining rooms connected by standard door (as we do have). Our adjustment - Enjoy living areas at perect desired temps throughout days - while dismissing warmer BR temps during day. Make use of blankets while watching TV during "transitioning" time of 3 hours between 9:00 p.m. - Midnight. Enjoy perfect temp for "falling alseep," waking up to turn on bedside as temps rise. . Here's our story. Pros: I am a handicap woman, and this was a SNAP to install. Literally, one end snaps into the unit and the other end snaps into the window plate. Window end "rotates" making "alignment" perfect without struggling to manipulate the hose for perfect alignment. Pros" Vent panel door opens automatically when machine is turned on, and air flows directly in front of machine. I can control air flow up to ceiling or down toward floor. Con: Machine is quite heavy - I won't be moving it around over the carpet. (Though I can "push" it a bit). Con: Machine is really wide / bigger than desired. Visually: Machine looks fine, but again big. The huge plastic, accordion "stretch" hose is n eyesore. Pros-The hose "crimps" back so you can minimize the length of hose to only what is needed. Pros- Because hose "stretches" it provides some control of machine placement. Noise Pros: More quiet than expected - More quiet than the new window fan we replaced it with. It does make "sound" but closer to low, dull, steady "humming," NOT like the noise of parts/motor rumbling, clanking, or "working hard" to put out. Pros: This A/C cools two adjoining rooms. It is positioned in our 25'x11' kitchen/living room and the A/C is positioned to blow air directly into our 14' x 11' master bedroom. Efficiency out put of cool air: Starts to cool immediately. Cons: We're still experimenting Living areas will get substantially colder than bedroom throughout day, if A/C is set and remains between 74-76 degrees (while outside temps mid-high 80s). We'll see when Florida tempts hit 9O - 100 how it performs. Con: Will not provide steady, consistency of preferred temperature throughout both Living area and bedroom (The window A/C did. A big window box fan is needed (in connecting doorway) to draw cooler air from LR into BR. Pro/Con: We have learned to set the A/C down to 70 degrees around 9:00 p.m. to cool down BR for sleep around midnight. This makes the living area "cold" and we need a blanket when watching TV. I've learned that if I leave the A/C set on 70 throughout the "night," the bedroom gets "too" cold and I wake in middle of night. Hmmm. Compromise: I have set a small 10" fan on bedside table. Just before hoping into bed, I turn A/C back up to 72. I can sleep a few hours but start to toss and turn around 5:00 a.m. cause of rising temp. I turn on my little bedside fan to blow directly on me, and I am able to go back to sleep.
