Q: Can these be mounted out side?

I mounted mine outside with no problems.

Q: How many hours of light do the average AA batteries last in this?

The MFG here says "Over Lite is tested for 540 on/off cycles - continuous run time is 3 hrs (10,800 seconds.)" but they do not say on Hi or Low so I assume low and for me I use high which most probably do and I am changing batteries in 3 weeks or less sometimes 2 weeks and I figure I am running them around 21 minutes per week. So if I change them in a month or less that is only 1 hour maximum. I love the light but for LED I would expect this to last a lot longer. There is no way this is affordable on throwaway batteries so the only way to use this product is with rechargeable batteries. I will keep looking.

Q: Are these good to put in a dark closet? Will they go on/off when the door opens/closes? Will it light up a regular sized closet?

This light is motion activated and very sensitive, so if your closet door opens inside, it should activate the motion sensor and turn the light on. If not, your movement into the closet would certainly turn it on, especially if it's overhead, and near the door. It is surprisingly bright, so you should have enough light for a regular size closet. Don't expect it to be as bright as a regular 60 watt lightbulb, though.

Q: Does this work on a vertical wall?

I think it should. I use it on a horizontal surface but can’t think of any reason why it would not
