PCs For Dummies

Very good book. My 80+ mother uses this book a lot. Easy to understand and read. It has been a lifesaver for me, as I don't have to constantly show her how to do things. I have even learned a thing or two from it.

I bought this book for my wife because she says that she can't learn from me. The problem is that the book doesn't include exercises, and it is not really a "course." So, she reads it sporadically and skips around; which is better than nothing, I guess. The book is somewhat dated, not covering Windows 11, but it does serve as a pretty good introduction to the fundamentals. We bought a used copy, that's what I would recommend.

The version I bought acts like everyone doesn't have wifi! Also they act like it is the only type of computer out there.... But having said that, it is set up well for learning... small segments and lots of space and some illustration. We will see how this goes. I have always worked on a Mac so it seems complicated by comparison. Lots of times PCs are required for work so I thought I better know a bit about them... we will see.

A quick look through (as I bought it form my granddaughter) and it builds up from simple to reasonable complex. Ideal for someone who wants to learn more about computers from scratch.

Good condition

I know that previous reviews have commented on how dummed down this book is,but for a complete computer illiterate like me it's perfect! every section stood alone by repeating previous info instead of giving a chapter ref. Anyone with some basic knowledge would find it a touch condesending,but hit just the right note for me. Only negative was the very american language,took a while to realise he was talking about a USBstick when he said thumb drive!!!

Some of the print is too small and needs to be in smaller descriptive/explanatory groups.
