Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Bedtime Stories is the sixth studio album by American singer Madonna. It was released on October 25, 1994. Madonna collaborated with Dallas Austin, Babyface, Dave "Jam" Hall, and Nellee Hooper in order to move into a more mainstream sound. The singer wanted to soften her image following the critical and commercial backlash she faced after releasing sexually explicit projects in the previous two years, notably the Erotica album and the book Sex in 1992. Bedtime Stories is a pop album which was inspired by contemporary R&B. Like its predecessor Erotica, the album explores lyrical themes of love, sorrow, and romance, but with a toned-down, less sexual approach. LOVE it! :D
So, I got Celebration in March for my birthday, and I thought it was so amazing I couldn't stop listening to it for weeks. Then, one of my neighbors gave me "Ray Of Light" and I'm now going to return the favor by buying/burning all Madonna's CD's so we'll both have her whole collection. :) Anyway, I decided to start with her two most under r ated albums; E rotica and Bedtime Stories. On May 22, I finally got it and had to listen to it. It's so sad that this is her most forgotten album; because it's awesome. She starts out with a song telling us that no matter where she goes in the end, she's going to be living to tell in "Survival". In "Secret" we learn that Madonna's date has got, well, a secret. Uh oh. What secret that is, we don't know, but they've got one. In "I'd Rather Be Your Lover" Madonna tells her date that she could be their mother, sister, friend, or even brother, but for her, lover tops all. "Don't Stop" tells us Madonna's date also has some dancing skills, because she tells him to "keep movin', keep groovin'." "Inside Of Me" is one of my favorites. It's so sad, yet so sweet. A great song to sing when you're missing a loved one. Watch out h aters, because "Human Na ture" is Madonna's message to you. She tells the h aters "did I say something wrong? Oops, I didn't know we couldn't talk about se*. Did I have a point of view? Oops, I didn't know I couldn't speak my mind." You go, Madonna! Tell them! "Forbidden Love" is just a nice song for lovers everywhere. If Madonna "had one wish, love would feel like this." :) A very nice song for anybody together. "Love Tried To Welcome Me" and "Take A Bow" are sad break-up songs that will make you want to (and some might even) cry. :( The title track "Bedtime Story" is just about two lovers getting unconscious. Beautiful rhythm. :) I haven't listened to "Sanctuary" yet, but so far, this is my favorite studio album of Madonna's (other than "Ray Of Light". :))

Best album of Madonna
I listened to the entire album belatedly and liked it so much that I bought it right away. I know it's the most underrated Madonna album in the 8s and 90s, and I even thought, "Why on earth is this good?" Personally, these are my three favorite songs: Human Nature, Forbidden Love, and Love Tripped to Welcome Me. Even considering the times, it's the best album armed with a really sophisticated sound.

Madonna's "Bed" is Irresistable
This is one great piece of work. Madonna experimented with R&B and it sounded great. There were a few tracks that, to me, didn't seem to click. The title track "Bedtime Stories" is rather bizzare and out there. I'm not sure if I understand it completely and for me that was one of this release's flaws. The others are a great assortment of materials that seemed to go with the flow for Madonna. "Erotica" had Madonna flirting with the audience over sex and her views on it. After the flirtation, she takes you in, seduces you with these tracks, and closes out what seems to be her "Sex" days. It's rather smart musically. There were great tracks on here that have over the years come to be known as Madonna's staple hits. "Secret" has one of the most alluring beats and chorus' that I've heard. It's slow grooving with an nice story that you have to admire Madonna for taking on. "Human Nature" is right up there as being one of the best tracks from this CD. It's shocking when you first hear it; she curses and then tells you she's not sorry. Songs like this are worth a listen to. They're not just mindless releases but thoughtful and empowering. "Take a Bow" is a fittinc conclusion to the CD. It sounds different from her other things and the message seemed to allude to the fact that Madonna was moving on in her career, life, and progress. It was a great transition into her future releases. As for tracks that don't often get much mention, they were surprisingly good. I found them all to be different from her other material. They were less pop and, as she set out to do, sounded more R&B-like which was a genre she fit in well to. "Survival" is a great song- up-tempo, great vocals, a nice rhythm. I think this was single-release worthy and I'm not sure if it ever got that treatment. "Don't Stop" is a good song that's meant for dancing; the only flaw is that it has lines such as "say la-dee-da-dee" but other than that, a good take on a song. To round out the seduction Madonna lays out, "I'd Rather Be Your Lover" is catchy and leads into the more intimate part of the CD. "Inside of Me" and "Forbidden Love" are moodier, more sensual while not being overly vulgar. This CD could be summed up in many manners. Great, a masterpiece, interesting. Sure. It's all of those things. I also would like to say that it's fun. I look at it as a continuation of "Erotica" and I'm not sure why it doesn't get its deserved acclaim and attention. Regardless, this is a CD that belongs in your collection.

The first time I heard Bedtime Stories I wasn't very impressed, in fact I would go as far to say that I didn't like the album. I have loved everything Madonna had produced and found her to be a talented yet underrated artist. A year later I decided to give this album another go and it instantly grew on me. Now it is in my top 4 'M' albums. Never have i had such a change of heart with an album. The 90's saw Madonna change as a person and as an artist. This album emphasises that when compared to previous material such as her first 3 albums. After the Erotica controversy Madonna opted for a softer more toned down image and sound. She tried to appeal to the masses again. She turned to R&B, something she hadn't really touched. However, she didn't make your typical R&B album from the 90's like Mariah Carey ( Daydream/Music box) or even MJ (History). With the help of some amazing producers and writers including Babyface Madonna created some of her finest work. The album proved to be a commercial and critical success. Although it wasn't the same height of success she enjoyed with Like a Prayer or True Blue. -survival. This proves to be a great opener for the album and really set the feel for the rest of Bedtime Stories. 4/5 -secret. Honestly one of her best singles to date. this is a great R&B/Pop tune and was performed amazingly by Madonna 5 -I'd rather be your lover. One of the albums weakest tracks yet it still had a catchy sound to it 3.5 -don’t stop. Personally, my least favourite track on BS. It doesn't fit in with the album and tries to include a more dance-disco sound. I find that it distracts you. 2 -Inside of me. This is a beautiful song by M. very impressive with great lyrics. 4.5 -Human nature. Another album highlight. R&B beats are amazing and the lyrics see Madonna having a 'dig' at her critics. Amazing!! 5 -forbidden love . Truly beautiful ballad,5 -love tried to welcome me. Great song 4 -sanctuary. one of the best on the album. The lyrics are thought provoking and and rich. Madonna sings in a haunting yet calming voice. The song has an AMAZING beat 5 -Bedtime Story. My FAVOURITE SONG FROM THE ALBUM. WOW!! This song has blown be away from the very first time I heard it. The earth-like sound and mystery tot the song is what I love. The lyrics are beautiful and like the previous song provoke thought. It's one of my all time favourite Madonna songs. Ironically, it was wrote by Bjork (who I am not usually a fan of) 5 -Take a bow. One of the best 90's songs and some of M's finest vocals. 5
