2130 Vinyl and Leather Repair Kit, 3 oz, Black

I used the J-B Weld 2130 Vinyl and Leather Repair Kit several weeks ago and was thoroughly impressed. This is a great product that delivers on its promises. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, making the process straightforward even for a first-time user. Mixing and matching the repair compound to the color of my leather was simple, and application was a breeze. The key is to ensure you let it dry properly after application to achieve the best results. The repaired area looks very good and so far it is holding up extremely well. The repaired area stays soft and pliable. Highly recommend this kit for anyone needing to fix vinyl or leather items!

I wasn't entirely certain what to expect with any leather/vinyl/dashboard repair product. The reviews for many brands and types of repair kits were all over the board from the best ever to whale-dung bad. I have used JB Weld products in the past and they have always worked as expected so I ordered the J-B Weld 2130 kit to repair my cracked and tired 1979 Fiat X1/9 dashboard. Since I am knee-deep in a full X1/9 restoration, the dashboard I repaired was removed from the car and the repair kit was used inside a dry, heated garage. The vinyl repair silicone is fairly thick but will flow out slightly to smooth over any light wrinkles or high spots with the initial application. There are a couple of things I would recommend when using this (and likely similar kits): use a plastic single-edged razor blade (or similar) or a small (1" or so) flexible plastic applicator to apply the vinyl repair compound. The included applicator is very thin, narrow and breakable. It (the included applicator) also limits the quality of your silicone repair application. I also recommend thoroughly cleaning the repair area with alcohol (per the instructions). In my experience, most repairs will require more than one application of the repair compound. One thing to remember is the curing time, around 24-hours. I suspect the quality and curing times will change with temperature and humidity. Now for the results. In a word, impressive. I applied the compound and let it cure as directed. It does shrink a bit, likely requiring a second coat. However, on the second coat, I used the included texture paper to match the texture of my dash. I did use painters tape to ensure the texture paper would make good contact with the second application of the repair compound. I am not certain if this is required for good results but I didn't think it would cause any problems, so I taped it down. The results were very good and much better than I expected. For the price of the J-B Weld repair kit I figured I would give it a try before I went to the expense of ordering a professionally restored dashboard. I am glad I did! The quality of the repairs I achieved were good enough to satisfy my very high standards. The colors included with the kit can be combined for additional colors. I was able to get a good match for my dashboard, although I plan to paint and flock the dashboard for a more finished look. However, that isn't required to get great results, at least in my experience.

Kit instructions are easy. Glue works good. The kit I received some of the paint was hard and unusable. I called JB weld and they were nice enough to replace the kit. They said this is an issue when purchasing on Amazon because they can’t guarantee the product isn’t old and out of date.

I had cracks forming behind the toe cap on my boots. I filled per the instructions, waited two days. Once the boots got damp, not wet, the adhesive turned completely white and goo. It then proceeded to come off, taking a thin layer of leather with it everywhere, deepening the cracks. The cracks are now deeper than before, not to mention the time it took me to remove the goo. Might work for something, sure didn't work on boots on a joint with movement despite claiming flexibility and light moisture, for filling in voids, or with backing for holes.

This worked really well. You just have to take time to get the right color mix. Transitioned the torn leather on the driver's seat.

I knew that the pictures and advertisements for this were clearly too good to be true, but as a huge fan of JB Weld I assumed this would at least be decent. Matched the color quite closely, followed instructions to the letter and then discovered that it darkened considerably when it dried. Used on drivers seat in Subaru, it only partially fixed the peeling of the vinyl while more or less permanently filling the surrounding crevices with overly dark and non-removable glue. I was so hopeful when finished applying the repair and was a bit shocked at how terrible it looked and functioned after drying. If you use this stuff, I'd recommend using it without any color added
