Q: How much wax needed for a 55 gallon barrel??

That depends on how leaky your barrel is, I only have a 1.5 gallons barrel and only needed to wax around the barrel bands and some spots on the faces of the barrel. Having said that, if I used less than one container for a 1.5 gallons I would guess that might need substantially more and you may want to find somewhere that sells this in larger quantities.

Q: If a barrel has leaked out its contents and dried can it be used again?

Usually! From what I remember, you have to fill the dry barrel with warm water and let it expand again before identifying leaks. From there apply the wax as needed until the leak stops.

Q: What temperature will this wax withstand? I want to make sure the wax won't melt when I put my barrel in my attic.

It shouldn't be put in the attic. Should be in the basement.

Q: Does the barrel need to be dry on the outside before applying the wax? Or can I just apply it where its leaking?

You really have no idea if your barrel is leaking until you have liquid it in. Therefore your barrel will be wet when wax is used. So I use the wax on the areas that are leaking while they are wet.
