A little fragile but with proper handling it’s good.

I have used this crucible only 2 times. Once in a wood fire I which I had it hot enough to melt cans. Once using coal as a fuel in my forge. I melted down a garbage can full of cans. The crucible performed perfectly. I heated up the crucible slowly, and as even as I could. The one review stating it broke on first use could have been due to thermal shock. This is graphite and clay, and should be heated gradually and evenly. I did not read that in the product description, but I have over a decade of professional foundry experience so please take my word as a professional. I expect to get many uses, and if it should fail prematurely and not due to negligence, I will reflect that in an update. As of now, two thumbs up!

I don't know much about graphite crucibles, but it easily shaves off material if you rub it. It's very soft so be careful, but this came in handy as the pouring spout was too narrow so I used a round file to open and smooth it out well. The tongs are very thin and flimsy but not bad for what you get with the whole package.

I've melted aluminum twice and bronze twice so far. The crucible is looking good with no issues. The tongs are already toast. They survived the first two pours. After the third pour they would not close all the way. After the fourth pour the tongs were completely useless. I have to push the handles all the way together before I can get them to pinch, and it's questionable if they could pick up a crucible with metal in it. My advice is to get this set and only use the tongs for digging the sand or putting your castings in water. Don't get them too hot.

This crucible has worked as well as any other I've used, and came with a set of tongs, all for the same price as the other crucibles by themselves. The tongs are smallish for this size crucible, but I have no complaints.

Excelllllent tongs and crucible. CONDITION IT BEFORE USE THE FIRST TIME. Instructions were included with mine for conditioning before initial use. Please make sure to do this before melting anything. Great quality. Great Seller.

The crucible broke while doing a primary borax/boric acid melt. The tongs are also as shown. It doesn't fit over the crucible, probably works okay but it doesn't have a confidence inspiring feel to it. I let customer service know what happend. Will update the review once I get more info.
