Troubleshooting with the Windows Sysinternals Tools (IT Best Practices - Microsoft Press) Review: Great book for Windows admins - As a Windows admin, knowing how to really dig into the OS with the Sysinternals suite has proved to be a valuable skill for me in the past. I already had a basic grasp of how to use tools like procmon but wanted to do a deeper dive. I’ve read maybe 50% of this book and skipped the sections that didn’t hold much value for me. The book gives a great overview on how processes actually function in Windows and goes over some “basic” Windows architecture, which was helpful. Additionally, there is loads of information for each of the tools that far exceeds what I’ve been able to find online. The real world examples provide some good context for how you can use the tools. I stickied the really helpful sections and tools and use it as a reference book at work. Book was brand new and in good condition. I would buy again. Review: The troubleshooting tools are free, but the book written by the software engineers is essential. - Troubleshooting With the Windows Sysinternals Tools is an expansive instructional reference manual that provides detailed instructions for using a toolbox full of free apps available on the Microsoft Website. The book is well written and very detailed not only in the description of each tool and what it is used for but also provides an expansive explanation of how to use each tool and how to interpret the results which will lead to a solution. The authors of the book are the software engineers that developed the apps. The book also presents many example problems and their solution using the tools. I highly recommend this book for the IT professional involved in their day-to-day work of problem-solving. The reference also lends itself to those wanting to gain more knowledge of the Microsoft Operating System.

A must-have for all serious Windows technicians.
This book is well organized, and is ideal for diagnosing and solving most MS Windows problems. It is a great read for gaining a deeper understanding of the inner workings of all versions of Windows. I highly recommend Sysinternals and this book, Troubleshooting with the Windows Sysinternals Tools.

This book is loaded with good information. I bought to try to solve a problem occurring during a Windows 10 update. I found what I need, now I have to try to put it into practice. I am also looking forward to using other features in Sysinternals Tools now that I have a very good guide to get me started.

Great Introduction for the Windows Internals books using various SysInternals tools.
I wish I had purchased this book much sooner. Russinovich not only explains how to use certain tools but he goes into somewhat of a primer on Windows internals such as how processes are created. I would say that this is an introduction to his Windows Internals books. Read this book before trying to get into any of the Windows Internals series as it might give you some visual context from the SysInternals tools when reading the much more advanced and in-depth books.

Great for Windows diagnostics
While I've used SysInternals tools for years, I finally decided to purchase this book and I do not regret it. It's allowed me to take a fresh look at Windows diagnostics. I am glad I bought this - it's already helped me while working helpdesk.

Tons of stuff given in it, worth the buying for windows applications/processes issues, what/where/how to look at.

I was looking at books to improve my knowledge it's been a while since I did any of this stuff, this book has enough in to be essential to growing your skill set and refreshing your knowledge. Cheaper than the alternatives and just as good, it does not require you to already know the basics as it covers everything you could want and more.

Mandatory reading for system administrators and DevOps. Russinovich does a good job again in this book. Now I'm getting the same proficiency that I have in Linux.
