What goes in with the retainer? water? water with Brite tablet? or ???

I use a denture cleaner (in tablet form) to clean my mouth guard, and I use luke warm water as well.

what type of cleaning solution to you put into the unit

I am using denture cleaning tablets that I got off Amazon. Not particularly chuffed about the cleaner though in retrospect I should have bought better quality. The sonic cleaning doesn't clean at all even if I leave for 15 mins in the cleaner.

Need instructions. They were not included.

Not sure what you need for instructions. Mine takes 2 AA batteries from the bottom. My cleaner says to let them soak for 15 minutes or until blue solution turns clear. I have unit "on and vibrating" during this time. Hope this helps.

Does this machine require any liquid solution?

Yes. My dentist had me dissolve half of a Retainer Brite tablet in warm water, then put my dental appliance into the fizzing solution, running the vibrating device for 15 minutes. (My problem with this model was that the battery compartment is a bit too small for the required AA batteries.)
