The Little Book of Incredibly Useful Knots: 200 Practical Knots for Sailors, Climbers, Campers & Other Adventurers Review: Very nice collection of knots. Clear drawings and explanations. - Nice little book with many different knots. Very good for beginners like me (and my kids), definitely recommended. The hardcover I ordered feels pretty sturdy with a decent binding, it will take a bit time to until it will become more flexible with opening. (Tip from a book collector: Don't force brand new sturdy (small) hardbacks into full 180 degrees opening, that's the best way to kill the binding. They always become more flexible over time.) Review: Lots of knots - This book shows you more knots that you will ever need to know, but you will certainly find many of them useful. It gives excellent instructions on tying the knots. I cannot find a better book showing how I can knot a rope.

Not a Beginner's Knot Book - Some Errors
This is a well-researched and well-written book, but it includes a lot of exotic knots that few people would ever need to know or use. I would NOT recommend this for a beginner, but an advanced practitioner would certainly learn a lot of modifications of more standard knots, bends and hitches. It's not evident whether the rating system is but the authors' assessment or based on objective testing or consensus conclusions. Most of the instructions are quite clear, but at least one graphic changes the colors of the two ropes midstream as the paired ropes are flipped, leading to likely confusion. I take issue with the authors' use of the term "standing end" in place of the more common (and, I believe, more historically accurate and understandable) "standing part" - the main part of the rope between the "working end" and the "bitter end". And there is a significant error in the description and depiction of the Munter Mule, which is in fact a Munter hitch on a carabiner backed up by a slipped half hitch (Mule hitch), which itself can be backed up by an overhand on the bight around the standing part. The slipped cleat hitch is also incorrectly show. All cleat hitches require a full turn around both arms of the cleat before crossing over the top, so that there will be sufficient friction to prevent slippage or overstressing the closure. Also, the Blake's Hitch is described as a caver's friction hitch for ascending. As a cave rescue instructor, I've never known that hitch to be used in caving, but it was the primary alternative to the tautline for arborist doubled-rope climbing technique (now superseded by the VT hitch).

An excellent book!
I would just add different colors also to the wire rope on knots made on a single rope tip because it is very confusing and difficult to understand when the knot is on the end of a single rope tip. Beyond that the book is very good and varied in knots and at this price you get 300 knots which is much more than any book at this price.

HELPFUL!
I have enjoyed learning so many new knots. A couple of drawings incorrect, but such a good book.

Strong hard cover and great kind of paper inside. Very pleasant to handle and read. All the information well organized and several figures to make the learning easier. Each knot is classified in strenght, security, ease of tying and ease of untying. Short interesting comments help to memorize the utility of each knot. A great book if you are looking for learning some useful knots. Strongly recommended.

Great as a gift, or for learning those knots that you have heard about but don't yet know how to tie.

I bought several knot tying books and this was by far the best. Huge selection of knots, and most importantly easy to follow diagrams defining the different pieces of rope and the ends of the rope. The size of the book is handy (small and uncluttered) and it is easy to open, and keep open while trying a knot. I bought another book which was ring bound, thinking it would be a good format for following instructions but this book is just as good at staying open.
