Must have
These are very efficient. Tabs in the toilet tank deteriorate the tank seals. The tabs in the Kaboom never touch the tank water. The water that goes through these, goes directly into the bowl. If you have trouble finding replacement tabs, I've used 1" pool chlorinating tabs and I've taken a knife and hammer to any brand of toilet drop-in tabs. The latter, I cut up into quarters to fit into the Kaboom top. I've used these for many (10+) years and was very happy to find a two pack to replace the old brittle ones.

Works Great
I have been using these for about 9 months and they work great. Definitely cut out the toilet ring that would start to form in 3 weeks to a month. Cleaning/scrubbing the toilet is not high on my fun list and I am as lazy as the next guy so any help with the toilet is very welcome. The install is super simple and easy. I bought tablets for pools/spas that are 1" and came in 1.5 lb container making the refills cheap. I bought choline ones so it can smell a bit but to me it helps make the bathroom seem cleaner. I guess you can buy Bromine tablets that have less of a scent.

Do NOT put both tablets in at one time like the manual says
Do NOT put both tablets in at one time like the manual says! Your entire house will reek of chlorine!! I took one tablet back out and left 1 and it got much better, but is still a bit strong. But it lasted about 5-6 weeks and the toilet remained clean with no scrubbings!! So it is a worthy trade off. I do recommend this system, but be prepared from some chlorine odor that will not go away. Plus side is I knew the tablet was dissovled completey because one day I noticed I could not smell any chlorine, so it was time to add a new one. :)

Protects the flapper, keeps bowl cleaner
First off, for refills just buy brominator tablets, the cheapest you can find at a big box store. I've used Kaboom's for a long while. The tubing included is cheap but adequate, the filler valve 'hanger' included will rust and crack out so get a decent plastic one from somewhere else. However, this does what it says and keeps the bromine/chlorine away from the tank flapper valve so you don't destroy it as you would with just dropping a tablet in the tank. This bypasses that problem.

Helps prevent discoloration, but not quite scrub free
Had a written my review a few months ago, I probably would have given it 5 stars. I installed them in 2 toilets, one of which I scrubbed clean beforehand (as per the instructions). I chose not to scrub the other so I'd have a control, as it were. I'd read in other reviews about water leaking from the screw on lid, so I made sure to screw them on as tightly as I could, and never had any problems with that. A few weeks later, I made the following observations: 1. The pre-scrubbed toilet still looked surprisingly clean. Something about the water here causes a toilet bowl to quickly become discolored after cleaning; with the kaboom installed, that really didn't happen. 2. It's best to follow the instructions. The unscrubbed toilet didn't magically become sparklingly clean, though it did a good job of staying clean once I scrubbed it. 3. One of the toilets has lower water pressure for whatever reason. In this toilet, the kaboom lowered the water level in the bowl by at least .5 inches. There was no noticeable difference in the other toilet. 4. Of course the product is Scrub Free: it doesn't scrub, and it doesn't force you to scrub either. Depending on your standards of 'clean', however, you may still have to scrub. 5. There may have been a slight scent at the very beginning, but if there was, it either went away or I quickly got used to it. Over the next few months, some discoloration gradually built up, though nowhere near as quickly. The clear plastic tubes attaching the kabooms to the fill pipe became very cloudy, though water still passed through just fine. At about 3 months, the states of the toilets quickly worsened and it was clear that the tablets were gone. That seemed fair enough, since that was the advertised approximate lifespan of the tablets. Fast forward another 3 months. I finally decided to remove the kabooms from the toilets (since they weren't doing anything). With the water drained from the kabooms, I was surprised to find that both still had parts of a tablet remaining in them. I had been convinced (based on the state of the toilets) that there had been one left for 3 months. Whether or not it contains any of the 'active ingredient', it certainly hasn't been helping my toilets (or at least not noticeably).

Replacement Kaboom tablets - Generic
Bought 2 Kabooms for the toilets in mid December, 2025. Have used them for a month now. They keep the bowl clean, and there is NO chlorine smell as these do not contain chlorine. These are bromine tablets and are also used in spas and pools. I am buying generic tablets instead of the higher-priced Kaboom brand who another person recommended. They suggested Spa-Kem 267 and Tropiclear. I found Clearview tablets on Amazon at a good price. About .59 each tablet. They come in a 2# container.
