Gerber Gear Moment Field Dress Kit I [31-002218]

Fantastic value. I wont even say "for the money". I like the size and thickness of the blades. These knives fit comfortably in either hand and have a non-slip feel. I am buying as a 2nd set for hunts that go extra well and skinning more than 1 animal will be done. These knives are already sharp enough to skin a deer out of the package and I believe that they will be able to process more than one animal before sharpening will be necessary. Having skinned quite a few deer using a variety of brands and types of knives, I can tell you this deal is hard to beat. Included is a photo of my favorite skinning knife next to the Gerber. The weight and balance are very similar to the custom knife. Oh yeah, let me address the sheath since so many reviews have trashed it so badly. The sheath is adequate and seems to be made well enough. I find absolutely nothing wrong with the sheath whatsover. If one chooses to use it, which I doubt many will, it will hang from their belt exactly as designed. I will likely use it only for storage and to protect the blade during transport.

This is a really nice set for the money. The blades feel solid but aren't overly heavy. I like blades you can beat on and baton with, or use like a hatchet or machete, but for its purpose I like this lightweight kit far more. If you are going to have to carry it all day, the extra weight of thicker blades is likely to become burdensome. I already owned the Smith & Wesson SWCAMP Campfire Set with Cleaver, Guthook and Campknife, and it may still prove more useful for larger game, but for most of what I am likely to need them for this set is the better and more practical choice. These knives came in sharp enough to shave with and the blades appear to be made with precision. If I were hunting or dressing out anything deer sized or smaller, this set would be my choice. The gut zipper on the larger knife is in my opinion an absolute necessity for small game and makes the job so much easier. I'm not particularly fond of the sheath, but it does the job and at this price I have no complaints. This set has given me a renewed interest in Gerber knives in general and I am eager to try out their higher end made in USA offerings, some of which are also very reasonably priced!

Very sharp right out of the package. I used for the first time last weekend and both knives worked wonderfully. The handles were ergonomic, comfortable, and non-slip even when wet. They are not heavy so you won’t notice weight when wearing them all day. The sheath that comes with them is nice too and has strong clips to keep them in place. I was worried they would look and feel cheap but these are great knives.

The set arrived nice and sharp out of the box. I used them today on the first day of rifle season and they worked well. The gut hook on the skinning knife made the job easy. The sheath is cheaply made and probably won't last long under frequent use, but that is really my only complaint..

I have used these to clean several feral hogs. They are good and sharp, and hold an edge very well. They are comfortable in my hands and do not get slippery when bloody or wet. As good as any other knives I've used and the price is great. I would buy these again.

Great little combo for hunting and easy to sharpen, I have heard other folks say that Gerber knives are harder to sharpen; I find that they are easier to sharpen and will hold a razors edge with the right amount of sharpening.

I like Gerber knives and this one does not dissapoint. I wanted something for field dressing deer and other large game. A small knife is great but sometimes you need something bigger. This has both instances covered. The Sheath holds both knives very well and the knives were razor sharp when they arrived. (3) deer and (1) turkey and they are still just as sharp. This is field dressing as well as butchering. Great knife set.
