It's almost impossible to find a better battery operated candle anywhere than the genuine Luminaria. I've tried various types/brands over the past several years, and finally decided to try a genuine Luminaria on the recommendation of a relative. I've always shied away from the high cost of these, but found one online that seemed reasonable. Other reviewers assured me that this was the genuine Luminaria brand. The variety of battery powered candles available these days can mislead a buyer if you're not really careful...some say "luminaria" while they are NOT actually that brand. One reviewer said to only buy those that list Luminaria as the seller, and that's what I did with my first purchase, but not this one. This one arrived in the official sealed Luminaria box, and the brand is also located on the battery compartment lid. I'm very happy with this purchase...and, unlike some other reviewers who said theirs had an unwanted fragrance, mine does not have any scent, just as the advertisement said it would not. I bought a bigger 7" tall Luminaria candle several months ago (the seller for that one was Luminaria) which had a light vanilla fragrance, which I like. It was advertised as having that fragrance and that was correct. I have used that candle for 3 months, turning it on with the remote at dark and then off once we have left that room for the night. The first set of D batteries I put in that one is still going strong. I expect the same battery life in this smaller candle I just bought, as it also uses D batteries. My first Luminaria candle came with a remote, and this one does not have one. But, my original remote also works with this candle as it was 'remote ready' when I bought it. I have had other types of battery candles that used either ' two C' or two 'AA' batteries, which seem to last only about a month using the timer function of 'on 4 hours, off 20'. Another 5" I have one of a different brand that uses three AAA batteries with a timer only lasts 3 weeks at best, using the timer of 5 on/19 off. That's around 105 hours and requires frequent battery changing. The Luminaria advertises 500 hours with the timer function of 5 hours on, 19 off in use!! I have only used it with the remote function since I rarely need it on for 5 hours at a time. ..but have occasionally left it on longer before remembering to turn it off. I highly recommend these Luminaria candles. They are so realistic you can hardly believe they are not the real thing. I thought my older, smaller candle, the one that uses AAA batteries and has a flame similar to the Luminaria's, was realistic looking UNTIL I bought a genuine Luminaria and realized there is no comparison. They are perfect on a mantel, or any other setting where you don't need a 360 degree view of the candle. The flame device is flat and the candle top is sloped downward a little from back to front, so the front view is the most ideal. I understand there is a 360 degree view Luminaria out now, but haven't actually seen one of those in use. These are just wonderful, safe candles which give the illusion of beautiful candlelight.

This is a beautiful candle. I love the authentic wax presentation. No worries if I leave the room.

I love these candles. They are so pretty at night. I have had quite a few of them for a few years. And I love that they have a timer.

Their flagship color is this ivory color and it clashes terribly with anything modern or white. Basically stands out like a big chunk of butter. Unfortunately they don't offer any new pillar models in white or off-white except for a skimpy 3-in. diameter pillar. Fortunately I discovered that they make beautiful warm white 3, 4, and 6 inch diameter pillars for a popular home decor company so I was able to get the ones I needed.

It's beautiful, looks like a real flame. Kind of spendy but worth it.
