Didn't know exaclty how I'd like this adapter when I ordered it. But I decided to try using an old PATA DVD Rom drive I had laying around on my Windows 11 laptop. Worked instantly after I plugged everything in and turned the toggle switch on the adapter. Tried a DVD with VLC and played no problems. I have a SATA Doc. But this adapter will allow me to check and verify what if any data I have on a bunch of IDE hard drives I have laying around. I was a little surprised I didn't need to bother to find an old IDE cable I had laying around. It will only attach to one device at a time. But it works. And for that I'm happy.

Have an orphaned hard drive and wonder what's on it? Get this adapter and plug any hard drive into your USB port on any other computer so that you can read and write to that old hard drive or even erase everything before you send it to the dump. I used it to recover old photos I had long forgotten. Then I erased the old hard drive contents and dropped it off at my local Electronics recycling station.
