461 Ocean Boulevard

First off this was and is a fantastic album, one of Clapton's best solo efforts. Rootsy, rocking blues from the first track to the last. It's part of the soundtrack of my youth and will always be among my faves. You'll love it too -- as long as you don't plan on getting the CD version. It may be different tin different distribution areas, and maybe it was just a mislabeled storage shelf/bin/box/drawer/containment unit in the warehouse that services my area. But I ordered this with 2 other CD's to be delivered on my "Amazon Day". the other two albums arrived as expected, bundled in a large cardboard box with this album... on vinyl. And so begins the litany of woes. If I had a turntable this would have been a great deal, since the vinyl costs over double what the CD does, but I don't have a turntable, and didn't order vinyl, so I went through the usual process of returning it, with the option of getting "the exact same item". (To be fair, this usually works fine. This time? I got to see just how deep the rabbit hole goes.) I assumed -- apparently incorrectly -- that "exact same item" meant "the item I ORDERED" not "the item they SHIPPED", but before I could even get the first copy in the return route, a second copy arrived -- again on vinyl. This time it seemed prudent to discuss this with "an associate" so after the usual pro forma fighting my way through the chat-bot which presents you with the same half dozen options no matter what you've already told it, but at least once you get somebody presumably sentient on the chat at least they know which order you're talking about. After trying for 20 minutes to communicate to the presumably sentient being on the other end that this was the correct ALBUM, but the wrong FORMAT and that no, it wasn't out of stock at the seller because I'm looking right at the product page where it says "Sold by Amazon, Ships from Amazon, In Stock". Eventually the presumably sentient being assured me that they had it covered, and would get a replacement out first thing, and a return label/QR code for return at the local Big Box Retailer That Takes Amazon Returns. He (or she, I couldn't tell from the name) was true to his word, and within about 10 minutes I had my QR code, and confirmation of the replacement order. It was a very efficient process, with the replacement arriving a day ahead of schedule (you know what's coming, right?) AGAIN ON VINYL. So now it was On. Like Donkey Kong. There were going to have to be telephones involved this time, because I'd run out of other options. So back through the whole gauntlet of chat-bot, and this time selecting "call me". I surrendered my phone number, got a call immediately... from a Dalek who only understood yes or no, and offered no option to discuss this with a sentient life form. At this point, I gave up. White flag. Tap out. I had the AutoRip copy (which they will ultimately bill me for because I already downloaded the album, so it's not like I can give it back), but it simply wasn't worth any more of my time or mental health to fight it any longer. I suspect that the product code label on the bin with all those vinyl LPS in it that they kept sending me units from was the label that should have been on the CD bin, and who/whatever was pulling the order simply scanned the product code, and went to the bin that was indicated and pulled a unit from said bin without checking/caring if it was the right item or not. And in fairness, I have to acknowledge that the sentient life forms at the call center have no way of knowing what's in what bin at any specific distribution center, nor do the persons/robots who pull orders hav e any reason to check to be sure that what they're pulling is what was ordered -- beyond making sure the product codes match. (And from what I know of Amazon's warehouses, they don't have the time to pay that much attention either.) All of this is understandable, but it also makes it clear that this was never going to get resolved, because nobody but me cared that they kept sending the wrong item, and I wasn't going to get a chance to explain this to a hominid life form. And after three attempts, it was time to be done with it. But you, dear reader, deserve to be warned, and now you have been.

Great sounding surround sound DVD. This sounds much better than my more recent SACD of this title. I still haven't figured out why the DTS Dolby DVD format did not take off. Most people own a Blu-Ray player and have a 5.1 Surround sound system. It will play on both a DVD player and a Blu-Ray player. You don't need a SACD player to get surround sound. I play this on an Oppo BDP105 player. Best investment I have made to my home theater system. These DVD Audio Disc sound way better than my expensive Japanese SACD’s. The sound is just amazing as unlike some SACDs, the vocals come out the center channel and the rest is spread out around you like you are getting a live performance. Unfortunately, I don’t think but about 100 to maybe 200 Artist that I like released on this format. I think it sounds better than the “Pure Audio” BluRay format. I only have about 15 of those and the absolute best sounding BluRay disc I own is a copy of Tom Petty And The Hertbreakers - Damn The Torpedoes. It was released in 2010 in a paper gatefold sleeve. I put the Japanese SHM CD protectors on it to prevent it from getting damaged. There’s a lot of Classical music on this Format as well. I think one of the main reasons why it was not a successful format is because most home surrounded sound systems are set up for Television and Movies. Whenever I listen to these as well as my SACDs ,I have to tinker with the sound and change some of the speaker levels to get it perfect, then my husband will want to watch something that is streaming and I have to readjust the main receiver to the television setting that sounds the best for TV. I managed to get one of the last Oppo UDP-205 players before they closed for good. It recently got an MQA update on the firmware and that was the best thing to make it worth the excessive price point as people were selling them for two and three times its original price. Regardless of what others might think, these are some of the best and proper sounding digital audio DVDs out there. They are extremely desirable and I have not bought any in awhile as the minty ones are extremely expensive.

Nice record . Has no scratches but does have surface noise. Overall pleased with the product. Will order again. Got here in a hood time.

I have to confess that, while I love Clapton, his albums are often a hit-and-miss affair. And I can't say I am a fan of the numerous recent blues tribute albums he has put out lately. For me I enjoy his work with Cream, his guest work, his first few albums, the one he recorded with The Band, a few older live albums, and bits of the Phil Collins-produced record in the early 80s. After that it's a fall-off, but I am thankful for all the great music he has turned out over the years. I have been listening to 461 a lot lately. It holds up exceedingly well. The groove is laid-back, with solid musicianship and expert song selection. It makes for great road music, especially "Willie and the Hand Jive," "I Shot the Sheriff," and the classic closer, "Mainline Florida." The ballads are beautiful, too. There is not a weak track on the album. There is a consistent tone, an aversion to excess and a concentration on the note and harmonic "fit" that makes this album an overall winner in EC's catalog. As someone who used to party in EC's old house at 461 Ocean Boulevard in Golden Beach in the early 80s, let me say -- you did it (and us) proud.

Ich habe gestern die Pressung von 2004 dieses großartigen Albums erhalten. Bei dem Preis von knapp 6 Euro konnte ich einfach nicht anders, als zu bestellen. Im Ergebnis bin ich von dieser 180 g Pressung sehr positiv überrascht. Man kann sich da ja heutzutage auf einiges gefasst machen. Viele Neupressungen sind in einer erbärmlichen Qualität. Hier hat sich das Remastering der Originalbänder sichtlich gelohnt und Polydor hat gute Arbeit geleistet. Der Klang ist absolut sauber und kraftvoll und feine Nuancen sind herauszuhören. Bemerkenswert ist hierbei noch, dass man bei Bestellung der Vinyl-Scheibe ja auch automatisch den Autorip bekommt. Hier sind dann sowohl digital sämtliche Titel der LP als auch der Deluxe - CD-Ausgabe enthalten. Für einen Preis von 6 Euro absolut unschlagbar. Zu den einzelnen Titeln und der Entstehungsgeschichte wurde bereits viel geschrieben. Großartiges Album in einer Top-Qualität. Unbedingte Kaufempfehlung!
