How many gallon bottles do I need to treat my cesspool?

For the average 1,000-1,500 gallon cesspool or septic tank, use 2 gallons the first week poured into the toilet or tank opening. Wait 1-2 weeks and add another 2 gallons. This will chemically loosen the sodium buildup in the soil over the next days and weeks to come, allowing water to be slowly absorbed back into the soil again.

My tank is about 4 years old, should I use this or wait?

Hello -We have many customers who use Septi-Flow Shock as a preventative to stay ahead of sodium buildup in their septic system. This helps prevent the soil from locking up (also call deadpan soil) whereby the soil begins to stop accepting water and eventually can 100% lock up. This is caused by the normal use of liquid and bar soap, laundry detergents, including dishwasher detergent. It also includes the use of water softener - water treatment systems that can add hundreds of pounds per year of salt into your septic system(which should be bypassed away from draining into your septic) which ultimately contributes to significant sodium buildup and in the leach field causing it to lock up, which can cost anywhere from $8,000 to $15,000 or more to remediate.

Bottom line is that Septi-Flow Shock is a fairly inexpensive way to maintain your septic system from locking up from sodium buildup. Add 1-2 gallons every 6mos to a typical 1,000-1500 gal septic tank by pouring in the toilet or adding to the septic d-box directly.

There are many other contributors to a septic system failing however sodium dolled up is one of several primary causes. Others could include everything from leech lines leech line collapse to tree roots permeating the system.

can you put to much of this in? we put two gallons in D box. should we put the other in via toilet

Hi - The short answer is: No you can not put in too much Septi-Flow. Its a 1-4 gallon product adding it to a 1,000 to 1,500+ gal tank on average. It would take a lot of product to "overdue it". The best thing to do it always pump it first (unless you are adding product for maintenance) if you are trying to remediate and slow or clogged system with sodium buildup. This is so that you are getting the maximum PPM (Parts Per Million) to throw at the sodium problem. There is no way to put in "too much" much, however more is better because higher PPM dilution allows the chemical reaction to get as far and deep as possible in the drain field. This is especially true for highly clogged systems that have severe sodium buildup. Again this product only addresses sodium buildup, if the issue is something else (which is can one of so many possible things stopping your septic from flowing) to name a just a few possibilities: The drain field lines could be collapsed or in the process of it (anything from trucks running over it, not known to you, to poor drain field construction materials like bad piping that's finally collapsing), tree roots entering the drain field lines, backflow of dirt, objects being thrown in that cause the system to stop up and can not dissolve such as plastics etc. and too much rain stopping absorption temporarily. There are many other things it could be but that is a short list. All the best!

Can't find my distribution box, but have access to my sepic tank. Would pouring this product directly into the septic effluent line be acceptable?

That's what I did (I have 4" PVC "main" line into the tank from the house and out to the field from the tank where I poured this stuff)...however, in my situation, there was too much "backflow" from the field back into the tank from the field so the 4 gallons of this stuff would have just dumped back into the tank (which I had pumped) and been wasted so I bought a 4" 90 degree elbow and a 4ft section of pipe at the local big box, stuck that elbow and pipe on/in that "outpipe" and poured this stuff diwn/in....I could see the level of 4 gallons of this stuff down in that 4ft "uppipe" but after 5 days, when our 1000 gal tank was about filled up, the level in that homemade "uppipe" had only gone down a couple of inches so this stuff didn't/hasn't worked as of today (I still have to have one way check valves and plugs in all basement drains)...soooo I guess my next step is to exploritory dig (ugh)... at least a camera, a "snake", and water jet all stop in apx the same place (about 12 feet out)... Note: And of course my county has the original permit # but can't find the submited and approved engineered drawings in their archives (ugh again)
