Set at a low-end summer camp and aimed squarely at a teen audience, Meatballs is a light screwball comedy that turned its low-budget Canadian roots into a very profitable box-office run. The biggest reason for the film's success is Bill Murray who stars as Tripper, the head counselor who runs things at Camp Northstar with the help of his love interest Roxanne (Kate Lynch) and the camp's director M Review: My favorite movie of all time!!! - I guess one shouldn't write a review on their favorite movie of all time but I have to share my feelings. I have owned every version of this movie, from a recorded copy off tv to a vhs, then the Canadian DVD with the weird sound track and the American re-release to FINALLY the blu ray! I grew up watching the underdog misfits of Camp North Star and learned many things from it. Meatballs was the movie I could watch over and over again and as I grew up I began to understand the jokes and laugh again and again. It is very under rated and most everyone I know remembers the sequel with the dumb alien and to be honest, I wish the sequels had stayed true to the original, I think it would have been a great franchise of those days like Police Academy was. Sadly, very few people know it exists and though it isn't one of Bill Murray's most memorable movies, he still is a charming funny guy that you wish was your older brother! I hate to gush like this but it is a movie I have always loved but I have to. It just doesn't matter if you like this movie or not, I hold it as my number 1 movie of all time. Review: Classic Camp Comedy - Blu-Ray looks & sounds amazing. ●Exactly as described & arrived on time●

A Classic Comedy That's Full Of Laughs .
I first saw this movie when I was 8, it was a great movie, in fact I believe it is one of Bill Murray's first big screen debuts. The reason why I liked it so much is it reminds me of summer camp, and those fabulous friendships you make while there. There are all types you meet and when camp comes to the end it is sad to say goodbye. This is a very funny movie, the cast is great, and Bill Murray cracks the shy kid from his shell. This movie is about friendships, love, teamwork, and loyalty. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves comedy, especially with great comics like Murray. It is a great feel good movie, and once you see it I'm sure you can relate to at least one of the characters of the film. THX, Kris L. CocKayne

Blu-Ray Lacks Most Extras, But Has a Dazzling Transfer
Ivan Reitman's 1979 comedy hit stars Bill Murray, who effortlessly parades around campgrounds and cliches found in many a kids' outdoor comedy, in this warm and satisfying summer-camp classic, packed with all the genre hallmarks one would anticipate. You may have seen other movies like it, but "Meatballs" is still the seminal camp movie, with its semi-raunchy humor (you'd never see a PG rated kids comedy now with as much adult material as this), fun mix of Elmer Bernstein score and songs (many written by Elmer and Norman Gimbel), and steady stream of laughs making for a good time for one and all. Surprisingly, "Meatballs" had something of a turbulent post-production process. Reitman's original version of the film focused mostly on the adventures of the various camp counselors, but when the director went to cut the film down, taking out nearly an hour of footage, he found himself with a 70 minute feature that needed "more." The director then decided to develop more material around the relationship between Murray's counselor and young Chris Makepeace, resulting in an enhanced emotional center at the heart of the picture (those scenes also stand out since Makepeace looks noticeably older). An independent production that's bounced around various video labels over the years, "Meatballs" was last issued by Sony in a Special Edition DVD that included a decent retrospective documentary. That edition was supposed to be released on Blu-Ray but never happened, leaving fans to wait until this excellent new Lionsgate HD package materialized. While the BD lacks the Sony documentary and other extras (it does retain a fascinating commentary track with Reitman and co-writer Dan Goldberg), the 1080p transfer is spectacular: crisp, colorful, and freed of DNR. The DTS MA stereo audio is likewise fine, and the original Paramount logo is retained (Paramount beat Fox and Universal for the rights to distribute the film theatrically in 1979). For Murray fanatics and comedy fans, this is a terrific catalog release that comes highly recommended.

Off the top of my head, I can only think of two memorable summer camp movies. . .
There's the original "Friday the 13th," and then there's "Meatballs." Both are good, but I assure you that Bill Murray makes a better camp counselor than Jason Vorhees! This movie offers a chance to recapture the youthful fun of going off to summer camp. The pranks and hijinks are entertaining. There is never a dull moment. What really makes this movie worth watching, though, is when Bill Murray shows us how to be a friend to someone who needs a little help with self-esteem issues. What a different world it might be if every real-life Rudy Gerner found a Tripper to give him a little boost along the obstacle course of life.

Back to it's original format (thank goodness).
I was hesitant to order Meatballs on Blu-Ray. I had owned this movie on VHS for many years and upgraded to DVD when it was originally released. I was extremely disappointed as the soundtrack had been changed in the movie presentation where Rick Dees 'Meatballs' was replaced with some re-imagined version that was part sung, part rapped by Bill Murray. I found this change to be very annoying considering the music used in Meatballs gives it part of it's overall charm. I am very happy to report that the Blu-Ray presentation is back to it's original theatrical format. The sound and color of the film is the best I have ever seen it in. The movie speaks for itself and is really a below the radar comedy that is still enjoyable to watch. You won't regret purchasing this.

Years ago I saw this in the cinema so I am looking forward to a re-visit, rarely broadcast, Bill Murray upsets establishment TV. It has hilarious scenes even if somewhat raw in content, a good comment on USA philosophy as was Dirty Dancing and we have all been there whether trampling the ATC RAF camp parade ground and throwing logs in ditches or waiting to leap into the sea from boat or aircraft to practice being rescued by Air Sea, that never happened so we can watch Murray river antics, similar to Dan and Uncle Buck in a wood cabin with a Bald Headed Bear. Part of the era of such films.

What can you say about Bill Murray's first major movie roll? Only that he does a great job and the movie is a good, summer comedy. I was a fan of this movie ever since I saw it at the drive-in back in the summer of '79. Since then, I have bought it on VHS, DVD, and now....on Blu Ray. Besides the movie being a good teenage comedy, the Blu Ray looks quite good. Picture is decent with good colors. If you're a Bill Murray fan, you'll love this movie. Ah, summer camp, those were the days!

Waited many years to have this one on DVD. And, I'm not disappointed. The digital transfer is excellent. So much clearer than when I remember watching it on TV. I have been a fan of Bill Murray's since his days on Saturday Night Live. As his debut film, Murray is his now famously comedic genius self. A definite glimpse of great films to come.
