AMEROUS Chess Set, 15"x15" Folding Magnetic Wooden Standard Chess Game Board Set with Wooden Crafted Pieces and Chessmen Storage Slots

I don't ever write reviews--so here goes my first one (at least I think its my first one). For years I've been using a chess set that my dad used..must be 50 years old at least. I remember filling it with clay as a kid to weigh the plastic pieces down, per dad's direction. But now that I'm playing chess online, and have the board on a turntable so I can play white and black easily, I have kept knocking over the occasional piece, to the point where its been a real annoyance so that I decided I had to get a magnetized board. This is a lovely set at a excellent price. the pieces are wood carved and, at least to me, have a lovely feel to them when held. The pieces are moderately large and carved in a classic style that I find quite attractive. The magnet on the bottom is efficient and really does hold the pieces to the board.....no more scrambling to find pieces I've knocked to the floor. Unlike so many of the items bought today, there is a real quality and feel of craftmanship to this set. The set folds in half so that it can fit into the box it comes in. Personally, I would have preferred a solid board for the chess pieces to sit on......but that is by no means a dealbreaker for me. Also, the magnetic chess pieces will have a tendency to attract one another if you stack them too close off the board....so I give them a little more space between them than I would for an ordinary chess piece. The box it comes in is, itself, is quite nice with several designs on the top and a chessboard pattern to it. It's really rather classy. On the box itself it says "Exquisite artisan carved chess" and its an accurate statement! Inside the box, aside from the pieces fit into snug fitting styrofoam, is a small booklet of chess instructions. I keep my chess pieces always out and on the board, but they would be easy and "safe" to travel with in their styrofoam holders if one were so inclined to take them on a trip. The booklet is only suitable for the very beginner as it is extremely basic and is 9 pages long. There is also a small pamphlet with cleaning instructions, a postcard with a chess theme, and what they title as an "international warranty". Not sure exactly what the latter means. But all in all even the box itself had the feel that a lot of attention had been paid to it by the seller. It cost me around $40 to buy off Amazon but now that I own it and have been using it I would have been willing to pay more given the quality of the set. So I hope my review doesn't sound to good to be true, but I REALLY like this set. I only wrote this review because I feel I got a great deal on this by a seller who knows and appreciates chess and deserves some recognition for the craftmanship. Now, if it will only help me beat my adult children who are starting to more routinely beat their dear old Dad!

This Chess Set by Amerous is a bit pricey, but when you think about what you are getting its really worth it. It is a 15"x15" Folding Magnetic Wooden chess set that is in of itself a case that you can keep all your pieces in. The outside is completely wooden and beautifully colored chess board, which folds out flat, and has hinges to keep it shut when you are not using it. I do wish that it had a handle, which would make it much easier to carry around but it is not necessary. The only other thing I wish it had was some clear coat on the outside of the set itself. Again unnecessary, however it would make it look very nice and protect it. we noticed after the first time playing with it we already had a scratch on the board surface. The pieces are beautifully cut and similar color to the board itself. The pieces do have clear coat on them. The cool thing about this set is the fact that they are magnetized! The board must have some metal on it, and the pieces all have magnets on the bottom which help them stay on the board without moving or being accidentally pushed off. I do wish the magnets were a big stronger, but you can tilt the board at around a 45 degree angle before the pieces start sliding off the board. This is great because it will be able to easily withstand an accidental bump or something without moving the pieces and ruining your game. I love the fact that the inside of the set has a foam insert with specific areas cut out for each piece, however my foam is a tiny bit warped and makes a slight upward curve, no big deal though. This is a very nice set, and would make a great home set or a set to give as a present, I am even thinking of getting one for my brother for his birthday! ~Thanx~

I owned a full glass chess set before. I loved it and kept it well taken care of until I went to college. My dad and I always played on it so I gifted him with it to remember me. I haven't played in 5 years and I wanted a new board. So I purchased this. First off the unboxing process was AWESOME. It comes in a sturdy, reusable box with story of why the board is special on the outside and a sticker to prove it's never been opened. Inside is the warranty and a specialized note. Felt like I was a special customer. The board itself is folded when you open the box. It has latches so the board doesn't randomly open. Very useful for the lifetime of the metal hinges. When you open it, the peices (all wood and obviously crafted) are in a foam case lodged in the board. Then there's the best part. The board is the perfect size for casual or professional play. And it's magnetic! So while your playing it the peices stay in place. This is not only important for gameplay, but is useful for games you need to walk away from and come back to! The wood surface is BEAUTIFUL and obviously is something to take care of over time (thankfully they include an "board upkeep" letter in the box). This shows great quality. The peices are a beautiful shade of light and dark brown. Well painted and stained wood. Even though the peices are magnetic, they have soft felt on the bottom. The only thing I wish is that the edges around the board were also magnetic so when a peice is taken it has somewhere to go. With an entire usable surface, I don't have to just put the peices to the side. Leaving me the freedom to be enveloped in the game. Otherwise, I love this board and am grateful to the makers. They obviously took their time and care about not only their customers, but also the art of chess!

I think it is really decent chess board you can get with it's price range. Love the wooden surface and pieces. Able to store piece inside board and it even has store case in it. Each pieces are magnetic so it sticks on the board. Not too strong so it can move easily but enough to hold so I doesn't slid or fall if you need to move chess board. Also liked the cover which look fancy and antique in same time. Overall.. satisfying five stars. 🤩

Product was defective on receipt. Quality is below average and not as advertised in pictures. Board had a bad scratch mark when opened. Magnets under pieces are not strong, will easily move if the board shakes. I raised this with Amerous support but they were unable to help even after acknowledging the issue, Even though there was an “international warranty” with free replacement/ refund offered.

For the price paid I am delighted at the quality received. My 5 year old is taking an interest in learning chess and by now he already knows how all the pieces move. He was using an IPad and decided it’s time to let him feel a real chess board. I searched, shortlisted proper and aptly priced wooden sets and decided to go with amerous. This set did not disappoint. Pieces and board are well crafted and worthy to be given its own table. Magnetic feature is great specially for children who tend to knock of pieces out of position . The organized storage also teaches my boy to value each piece making sure each are in their proper place.

I bought this chess set as a Birthday gift and it will be our first chess set. The quality of the chessboard looks great. The pieces are magnetic and can be hidden within the board, which was exactly what I wanted. Perfect to bring on vacation, if you have room for it in your luggage. Customer service is very kind and replies quickly. I also really liked the cover which looks fancy and antique at the same time.

I got this as my first chess set and I'm impressed by the quality of the board and the pieces. The magnetic pieces are a bonus. Do note the dimensions (it's quite big).

The chip didn't happen in transit as there's no loose wood piece(s) in the box. A bit disappointed that there wasn't a proper quality assurance check before items were packed and shipped.
