Looks like the pictures
I was honestly really worried about it having an odor. I am extremely sensitive to odors and intended on putting the blanket at the end of my bed. As soon as I opened it, I thought, oh no, because it does have a slight odor, and I could see how many could mistake it for a petroleum like smell. But I took it immediately and opened it completely to inspect it, and realized that it's just a wool smell. Any odor it did have almost immediately dissipated. I'm wondering if it's possibly from the plastic bag that it's packaged in?? Nonetheless, if your mot familiar with wool, it does have a scent to it, but it's really only ever noticeable if you literally push your nose into it. I'm a bit obsessed with wool. I have wool socks, multiple wool sweaters, many wool blankets etc. It is an amazing fabric that breathes, yet keeps you incredibly warm and doesn't hold odors. But you need to kind of get used to how to care for it. It rarely needs to be fully washed. It simply doesn't hold odors, and the less you wash it, the longer it lasts; I'm talking years and years and years it will last with proper care. I know the directions say you can machine wash it, butI would highly recommend trying not to as much as possible. It simply won't need it. If you were to have that uncommon accident like you spilled wine or something on it, then I would have it dry cleaned - but how often do those types of things really happen?? If it seems like got stinky, air it on a line outside for awhile. It won't hold the odor and you run the risk of damaging it with each wash. I have Scottish wool blankets, New Zealand wool blankets, Pendleton blankets, and now this one. It's not as thick as the Scottish blankets, but about the same texture, and bigger than those for roughly the same price. It's about as thick as the Pendleton blankets but stiffer, and not quite as soft. It costs roughly 1/5 of a Pendleton blanket. The only other wool blanket that I have that says it can be machine washed is the New Zealand wool blanket, but honestly the thought of machine washing it terrifies me, lol. Washing a large wool item just seems like a terrible idea, and why? It really shouldn't need it. I'm pleased with the price, quality, and weight of this blanket. I was slightly worried by the reviews that show theirs coming apart, but based on the info I received with it, I'm fairly comfortable that the manufacturer would respond should I have an issue.

The real deal!
This as a big hit as a Christmas gift for my husband. I'm a big fan of wool and wanted to get him a wool blanket for his side of the bed (he purloined one of our wool throws for this purpose, but it isn't long enough). I wasn't sure about the quality at this price point, but it is the real deal. He loved the Four Cedars colorway and the heft and weight of the blanket. It was perfect for keeping him warm while watching a movie in our under-insulated sun-room. While it isn't as soft as pure merino wool, it doesn't feel scratchy at all to me. It will make s a perfect layer for the bed in between the top sheet and blanket. Because it has such a high percentage of wool, I'm glad it can be machine-washed; it would be rather heavy to hand wash. I'll be using a made-for-wool detergent on the delicate cycle and then line-drying it. But I don't expect it to need a wash for some time since wool handles odors so well.

Manly blanket
It's nice and warm with a manly feel. Its heavy and keeps heat in. I use it on my bed but it definitely has a camping vibe.

Nice and warm but light weight
Love this blanket, it does have a little wool smell but not strong. It is very warm and yet light weight as I can’t take the weight of heavy blankets. Very well made and going to order a second one 👍👍

More of a rust red
Nice blanket - purchased as a holiday accent. Have not yet washed it but can’t be washed in an agitator washer. No weird odors just a slight “dye” smell. Thin blanket with machine sewn edges that are neat and don’t slide off the edge. Packaged nicely with care instructions. My only very slight disappointment is that it’s not as red as it looked on their ad. More of a rust red. I think I can still make it work for the holidays.

Comfy wool blanket!
I should’ve looked closer at the washing instructions as I have a top loader. It shed quite a bit so I air fluffed it 75% then used a clothing rack for the rest. It smelled when it came out of washer as wool does but it went away after drying and got softer. Keeps you warm without sweating and like the colors.

This blanket is beautiful and well made
This blanket is a quality, well made, soft blend off 70% wool and 30% synthetic. I love it. I recently bought a 100% wool Pendleton throw for over 50 dollars and this Arcturus is a much better blanket at a much better price and is not itchy as the Pendleton. You wouldn't know that it had less wool without looking at the label. I personally am allergic to wool but this blanket doesn't activate my allergies. Whenever I buy wool I make sure that I put another fabric underneath it so it doesn't rest on my skin. I even smelled it since a few people mentioned that it had a smell. This just isn't true. It just has a wool smell. I can live with that. This blanket also looks to be the size of a twin blanket. It's much bigger than I thought it would be. When I opened it up, it just kept getting bigger and bigger. I would definitely recommend this dense wool blanket to anyone looking to buy one. I actually bought three of them for the family. I bought the modern sunset because it looked like a classic blanket. I'm so glad to have found it. It's a real bargain at this price. I also bought an IKEA wool blanket, which I also like, but the weave in the IKEA is more open and not as dense and more expensive. I plan to put one in the car when I travel, and the other two I'll keep in the house. Get these before they're gone. Wool is a great insulator and in my opinion, and because of my allergies, I think it's smart to mix wool iwith another fabric so that it stays soft and supple and not stiff and itchy.

My favorite blankets of all time
I would hand wash them and line dry them only. We tested one through the top load washer and side load dryer and it fluffed up, but unevenly. I'd call it slightly damaged. Other than that they are soft and warm. I use 2 of them doubled up for sleeping down to around 48 degrees (outside) in the closed house without heat on. Below that temp outside I tend to need socks, so you could either add a 3rd blanket or wear socks at around 45 or below. In the summer in SoCal one of these works awesome with a fan on, because wool breathes, which means the fan breeze penetrates the blanket and any body heat escapes, so you stay cool but warm, which is the way of wool (warm but not too warm or cool but warm enough as long as you use the right thickness). I also love the 70/30 wool blend. It's nice and soft, still breathes well, and regulates temp perfectly. 70/30 or 80/20 are the best for wool blankets in my experience. That's probably why the military ultimately chooses those blends.
