Purchased for a Pontoon boat that has three batteries. Since there is not an alternator on the boat, the batteries do not charge when the engine is running, so if the batteries are not fully charged all you get is clicking. Used the DSR last time I took the boat out. It cranked the engine over on the first turn of the key. Loved it so much, I purchased another for my truck.

Built tough and unlike many other similar models, the cables are long enough to get into the battery box without having to get a stepladder to set the jump starter on!! Fortunately, haven't had to use it yet. If I had any complaint is that you need to use as external charging unit (included) to charge it up. Would have been a cleaner design to just have a twin blade Edison on the back.

We are a professional mechanic shop and have been in business for 21 years now, and this is our 4th box. Previous box is same brand and still works, it's just that the built in 110v plug in charger port for that box (really like that feature, no external charger needed) no longer would charge the box, so we (thought) upgraded to a nicer model (this one I'm writing the review for). Seemed to work great for the first 6 months or so, would even start dual battery diesel trucks with no issues. Then it wouldn't do the diesels every time, we attributed that to "maybe the batteries are just totally dead or had shorted cells" because it worked sometimes. I should have recognized at that point there was something up, but we don't work on diesel that often, and the box was still starting cars just fine. The box stays plugged in whenever not in use (like the instructions stated) and it always says 100% when we go to use it. Just noticed 2 months ago now it will only start something that is partially low, like when you get the starter that just clicks during cranking and will not turn over. Last month, now it won't even start those, let alone a car that had the key left on overnight. I had figured due to the more expense of this box, it should be even better than the last box, but apparently not. Very disappointed. We went back to using the older box for now, have to hook up a charger to the clamps and turn on the box to charge it, but still works, going on 3 years now. Guess they don't make stuff like they used to anymore...

I charge it monthly like the manual said whether I use it or not. I leave it in my car trunk whenever I drive out of town whatever the outside temperature is; a few times it was for trips with extreme temps at 25F or 110+F. I've used it to start another dead car and also give power to a tire inflator, and seem to have good reserve left before recharging. So far, it's worked well. The unit is heavy due to its sturdy build. If it works for the next 5 years, it's a winner. I prefer this over the dead small lithium unit for half the price.

have always purchased Schumacher equipment for our businesses jump starting / battery charging needs without issue. until now . i purchased this unit and it worked 2 times within 3 days of owning it now it wont and Schumacher wants me to jump though many unnecessary hoops instead of replacing this defective product. it wont jump it wont charge on the supplied charger and when plugged in it just jumps up and down in percentage charged ! i spoke with a csr at Schumacher and they were supposed to send the required info for replacement via email. to no avail. junk product junk customer service and they had my phone# as well. no return call nothing just out $400 for a hazardous disposal bill that i now have to pay just to throw it in the trash!! thanks Schumacher i will find a new brand and eventually switch all 8 jump starters and 15 battery chargers!
