Amazing!
I opened my Amazon box, expecting a package about 18 in. X 18 in with compressed moss. I was shocked when the package was about 8"x9"x1/2 in. or so, the size of a small notebook. I immediately thought I got hugely ripped off, but I tore off about a 3"x3" hunk and put it in a med. size bowl of water. It sucked up the water like nobody's business and filled the bowl with moss. I continued with this process with a bigger bucket until it was all soaked, and it actually filled almost a 5 gallon bucket of the cleanest, most beautiful moss I had ever seen. No sticks, no bark, nothing but super clean moss. I HIGHLY recommend this product if you are willing to spend a few minutes of your time decompressing it. It's totally worth it!

As always, excellent quality!
It came really flat like a big piece of cardboard this time and it was kind of amusing. But just break a hunk off and it always fluffs right up into the same great top quality sphagnum that works great with my tropicals. It’s super easy and quick to hydrate and roots love it. This is my preferred brand and I find it to be a good value.

Tons of moss for your money
LOVE. Don’t be fooled by the compact packaging - this was enough moss to make moss poles for 10 of my plants, both large and small. Lots of moss for your money. It hold moisture okay, I have to water it every 2-3 days. But it’s clean, not messy, and my plants love it!

A little smelly
It smells less like a forest and more like a dirty aquarium. The fibers are short, thin, and clump. It's useful, but not for my intended purpose in isopod bins. I'll go back to the other brand.

Made 4 moss poles! No mold if you sterilize it.
This worked really well. There was no trash or anything in the moss. Other reviews said it grew mold, so I just sterilized it in the pressure cooker on high for 30 minutes. No mold has grown on the moss and it made 4 moss poles.

Prone to Algae and Mold Growth - Otherwise Ok
Serves it's purpose well for moss poles. Comparing to other brands, it retains moisture equally well. However, in terms of quality, it has a lot of long, stray hay or dried stems and there are little unknown sprouts that pop up. I've used this for my moss poles, as well as Monstera and Alocasia corm propagation and I've also noticed algae easily grows on it, as well as mold. This can happen when too much moisture is retained and when grown in a clear container under the light. I've noticed that compared to other sphagnum moss I've used that this one is much more prone to mold and algae and I've needed to allow more drying out in between watering to try and avoid build up. These two things won't necessarily harm the plants in the short run and can easily be removed, so it's more of an inconvenience. Therefore, this sphagnum moss is less expensive and of lower quality. It also serves its general purpose when growing/propagating plants.

When this arrived, it was the size of a CD case - I was worried I didn't get enough. I placed it in a bowl of warm water and it grew exponentially. There was lots for re-potting my few orchids, and enough left over to do at least 3 more! Excellent quality too!

The 1.2lb option for this item is the best deal for sphagnum moss I've been able to find on Amazon, or elsewhere in Canada when you factor in shipping and quality. I have now ordered this twice to make moss poles and to propogate plants. It is high quality, free of sticks and twigs, and a good size for plant use. This comes as a dehydrated brick so when it arrives, don't be alarmed at how small the package seems. Once you soak it in water it will expand hugely.

A good way to package the moss. Way more than I thought at first glance. I was also able to activate it when I added water. You need to recreate a soggy bog which is where it grows.

I was surprised how much moss they're actually was! It came in a compressed square and I wasn't sure if I would have enough for what I required it for however, once I added water it turned out to be a lot! The only drawback was the smell! It is not pleasant but I found that it is subsided a bit. Sort of smells like when you walk into a pet store. That smell that overcomes you now I know pet stores smell like that because of the reptiles that they keep which they use the sphagnum Moss for. Makes sense. I did have to put the bag outside because it was just overcoming my entire apartment but other than the smell it worked great!
