In one review I read they not suitable for people with wet macular degeneration, is it true?

Not true. My dad had wet, took these pills, wet disappeared month later.

AREDS is an acronym for an Age-Related Eye Disease Study carried out by an American organisation, the National Eye Institute, which concluded that taking a daily supplement containing 500 milligrams vitamin C, 400 international units of vitamin E, 15 milligrams beta-carotene, 80 milligrams zinc, and two milligrams copper, could slow the progression of advanced are related macular degeneration (AMD).A subsequent trial (AREDS2, commencing in 2005 and lasting 5 years) involved adding or removing various compounds from the original formula, to see what effect that had. The conclusion was summarized as "Long-term use of AREDS supplements appears safe and protective against advanced AMD," said Chew. "While zinc is an important component of the AREDS formulation, based on evidence from AREDS2 it is unclear how much zinc is necessary. Omega-3 fatty acids and beta-carotene clearly do not reduce the risk of progression to advanced AMD; however, adding lutein and zeaxanthin in place of beta-carotene may further improve the formulation". The study also concluded there was no discernible impact on development of cataracts, although it noted that "a subgroup of participants with low dietary lutein and zeaxanthin gained some protection".Source: https://nei.nih.gov/news/pressreleases/050513 Based on the label information, and the details from that study, this product formulation appears to adhere to the conclusions of the AREDS 2 study, plus the addition of 10mg of meso-zeaxanthin, another compound that appears to assist in eye health. A study published in the the European Food and Technology Research journal states "a formulation containing all three macular carotenoids (typically 10 mg/day of L lutein, 2 mg/day of Z zeaxanthin and 10 mg/day of MZ meso-zeaxanthin) does appear to offer some advantages in terms of augmentation of macular pigment across its spatial profile, and in terms of improvements in visual performance in diseased and non-diseased eyes" . I purchased this supplement at the request of my ophthalmologist. After watching my grandmother go blind from macular degeneration, I knew I wanted to do everything I could to prevent the same thing from happening to me. The doctor's office sells something similar loaded with extra stuff that I already take in my daily vitamin and for a much higher price. I settled on this one because it has the same amount of the 3 proteins and less of the added stuff. I have it on subscription so I save money and never run out. There is no taste, it's easy to swallow since it's small, and doesn't turn your pee and alarming shade of orange. I've only been on it gor 3 months so I can't verify how well it works but that will come I'm sure.
