With many thanks
Code Talkers needed to be fluent in both English and Mother Tongue. So who better to select than those same kids who'd been sent to government schools to 'assimilate' in the White Man's ways. Thank God something good came out of that dreadful past! Various team members were interviewed for this book and without malice - to a man - they answered a call when it was needed. They translated messages from English to Navajo and back again without one error to their record by creating their own 'code language': The Coast Guard was 'Shore runner'; sailors were 'white caps'. A dive bomber was a 'chicken hawk' and submarines were 'silver fish'. A fascinating recount of both harrowing and humorous situations faced by these men. I'm left with just saying, "Thank you for all you did. Reading about you has been humbling."

Amazing Information
I purchased this for my husband who is very interested in codes, code breaking methods, etc. The movie is exceptionally informative ; it's amazing what we don't know about that went on during the War. Bless the Navajos for helping the government (that literally tore their nation and other Indian nations to bits) in a time of need. That's patriotism.

Navajo heroism in WW11
There are many good Code Talker books but this is one of the best with many great in depth stories about the bravery of the Code Talkers, the unique qualities of the Navajo language and what these brave warriors returned to after the war. These neglected heroes were the greatest of the greatest generation and this book tells that story well.

Code Talkers were life savers.
I have lived on the Navajo Nation in Arizona and have visited several Sights and trading posts, which tell you about the code talkers. This Is an excellent book about the code talkers and their sacrifices in World War II. We likely would not have won the war without them.

Great Book on Navajo Code Talkers
This twenty fifth anniversary issue is great and it tells more of what the Navajo Code Talkers have experienced during world war two. It is only book about Navajo Code Talkers that has quotes from a number of those who have passed on. Thanks.

Interesting follow up after Simon Singh book on codes.. But not as technical as I would have expected. More about the social problems of the Navajo..
