Frightful's Mountain Review: Loved by a 7 year old boy and by a 45 year old woman. :o) - Frightful’s Mountain - the third in the My Side of the Mountain series - was our favorite. Much of the book was told from the falcon’s perspective, and we loved all the details about mating, raising ayeses, and migration. The storyline was interesting and kept us listening on our daily commute. We are birders, so keep that in mind when reading our rating of the 3 books. ;-) We also lived My Side... while the middle book was okay but not as good as the first and last. We will most likely listen to this and the first book again. The narrator was pleasant - although it drove us nuts to hear him say “ Pair-uh-GREEN” falcon over and over. In our neck of the woods, it’s pronounced “pair-uh-grin.” We heard it said the first way so many times, my son keeps accidentally saying it that way. We enjoyed the parts about endangered species, falconry, and hacking falcons to the wild. I like a good story (this was.), and I like to learn at the same time (this definitely has some knowledge packed in.) So Frightful’s Mountain will stay on our favorites list for a long time to come. For reference, my son is 7 and in second grade. He has been into birds for 2 years now. I’m 45 and started birding when my son developed the interest. His reading level is at about a 4th grade level, and this whole series was much enjoyed by us both. Review: Good book - My kids love this series

These books are amazing!
I’ve loved Jean Craighead George’s books since I was a kid, and as an adult, rereading them brings me so much joy. I had not read this one before, and it did not disappoint. Seeing the world through the eyes of a peregrine falcon has taught me so much about these beautiful birds of prey. I’m so glad I was able to read this book. If you love nature and ever dreamed of running away to the woods, you need to read Sam Gribley’s story. Start with My Side of the Mountain and read through all three of these wonderful books. You won’t regret it.

Not the whole novel
This is a picture book, not the next in the sequence. Bought in a rush for my son and it was the wrong one.

This book is very different than the first 2 but very enjoyable.
The main character of the 3rd book in the series is Frightful, and not Sam. This was a surprise to me but I learned a lot about falcons. A good way to end the series.
