Although their native range covers all of the United States and Canada, they have also been introduced in other areas and thought to be competing for resources and, in some cases, killing European mink where they have been introduced to a native population. Mink are extremely intelligent animals with at least one study suggesting that their cognitive abilities surpass that of ferrets and house cats.
