MDD MAXDIGITALDATA MDD 12TB 7200 RPM 256MB Cache 3.5-inch Internal Hard Drive for Surveillance Storage (Renewed)

I got this drive mainly as a storage medium. 12 GB is a lot of storage space. It is for storing big files, videos, audio and anything not needing to be accessed constantly. I would not recommend using a big drive like this as a booting or operating system device. It is the constant accessing of files in an operating system that kills a drive's heads. So, it won't be a surveillance/CCTV drive either. It could be put to good use as a member of a RAID setup, however, with at least two identical drives in the array. This drive works well although it is a bit noisy when accessed. At the price it is truly afforable. I really hope I don't have to come back in three months to change this review. :)

"Amazon Renewed" gets you 3 months of warranty coverage. I ordered 2 of the 12TB drives and 1 is throwing bad sectors after about 5 months of use, so it gets to go in the scrap hard disk pile. On the upside, the price was 35% lower 5 months ago compared to today. On the downside, lost data & absolute waste of money. I should also mention, that of all the ex-datacenter drives I've purchased, this is the only place I've ordered from that proactively resets ALL SMART DATA, meaning that -- my EBay refurbished disks show 5 years of usage when I put them in service, while these show 0. Hides existing defects and makes the provenance and legitimacy 100% unknowable. Spend your money elsewhere, Amazon will not help you and "Amazon Renewed" means nothing.

Surveillance HD's for your NVR tend to be expensive and not necessarily more reliable than regular drives. This drive is definitely bang for your buck and, so far, has been very reliable. Drive temperature is normal even under heavy load (constant recording) and has not been an issue. Getting this large a capacity for the price was definitely a plus. While it hasn't been long enough to comment on reliability long-term, so far indications are that it should be reliable over the 3-year warranty period.

GREAT PRICE! So far it has lasted 2 months as storage for rsync. BUT it is really really loud!!! Any activity sounds like rain on a tin roof! It make so much noise that I fear for it's longevity. I saw one review that it was quiet... that had to be a false review...

It is a quiet and fast internal hard drive. During my test, the file writing speed could reach 180MB/s. Its real storage space is about 10.9 TB after format. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to pay low price and high-performance hard drive.

Bought 2 different MDD hard drives. First one got really loud after loading data onto it. So i returned that one and bought this one. Yet again after loading data. the hard drive got really noisy and loud. Days later the files would not read... will never buy another MDD hard drive again.

Hard drive is loud and a bit slow, but it does work.

Great drive, have 2 of these running in a server alongside another brand of 12TB drive, these are much quieter and the other brand has already had to be exchanged.

I bought this as a backup drive. Easy install... Standard fittings. Drive works great and is reasonably quiet for its size. Drive is fast enough not to be cumbersome.
