HABA 3177 My Very First games- My First Orchard- Cooperative Game Celebrating 30 Years for ages 2+ English version (Made in Germany)

Bought this to introduce board games to my 4 year old son. The box is nice and sturdy and has survived being thrown about by 2 children. The die has a good weight and is big enough for small children, and helps improve their dexterity. The cardboard basket looks like it will hold out a while - we've played this about 20 times and no sign of any damage so far. The crow is lovely, well painted and very characterful, and the same applies to the wooden pieces of fruit (minus the character, no cheeky faces there!) The cardboard trees and path tiles, again, are thick and should handle some level of juvenile abuse. The rules are simple - throw the die, if it lands on a fruit, pick the fruit and place in the basket thus saving it from the crow. Land on a basket symbol, take your pick of any fruit. Land on the crow and it moves closer to the orchard. The goal is to collaboratively pick all the fruit before the crow stuffs its greedy crow face. So children learn: - how to take turns - how to throw a die and interpret the result (and hopefully accept the outcome of chance rather than throw a tantrum and demand a rethrow - we got there eventually) - match colours and recognise the meaning of symbols - how to work collaboratively towards a goal, and accept others' "failures" - nice change from all the competitive games out there and they've learnt their parents are not infallible. - pick items up and put them in their respective places, whether that's the fruit in the basket or moving the crow forward by one tile - and maintain focus ie not lose interest halfway and mess the game up by pretending the crow turned rogue and hopped into the basket, or put the fruit back in the tree because they were all alone in the box Lots of fun, a smattering of focussed discipline and patience, dexterity and team-work. In term of ages: - 18 months old liked playing with the pieces and throwing the die (across the room) - 4 year old loved it and I feel this is about the right age, or a 3 year old at a push - adults will tire but a game last all of 5mns and hopefully this puts them on the path to Pandemic. Recommended!

A large die with different coloured faces, plus a basket face and a raven face. Tree mats, a path, a basket and a bunch of lovely painted wooden fruit and a wooden raven. Take turns rolling the die - the colour=pick a fruit of the corresponding colour and place it in the basket; the basket=pick a fruit of your choice and put it in the basket; the raven=move the raven a step closer to the orchard. If the raven reaches the orchard and there is still fruit to be picked, he gets it and the game is lost, if the fruit is picked first, the players win. Those are the rules. This is a kids game, so no deep strategy there (it is designed to win most of the time). But the pieces are lovely and it teaches children to match colours, take turns and pick up put down motor skills. It is also great for free play (the wooden fruits are very cool). If you are looking for a toy which provides a little structured play, this game is it. Very good quality, well designed - as all Haba games are. Our young nephew likes it and when we have our own children this will be on our wishlist!

Got this for my 3-year-old granddaughter's Christmas. I am very impressed with this game. Easy for young kids to follow and really sturdy. Nice bright colours, pieces are easy for them to hold. Great for learning to count and learn colours, as well as learning how to take turns in a game. Would recommend.

28 month old absolutely loves playing this game and it has held his attention and kept him engaged. The wooden game pieces are big and chunky, absolutely beautiful. 4 of each fruit; red apple, green apple, pear and plum, a crow, a dice and cardboard basket. This is his first board game and he is learning to take turns, throw a dice, select the right coloured fruit and count how many are left in the basket. In addition the fruit and crow will be used for open ended play, shopping/kitchen/farm etc so excellent value for money. Very pleased and would recommend.

Great wooden quality. Chunky pieces. Good to introduce little ones to winning /losing / playing the rules. Good that it’s everyone Bs the crow so they don’t have a tantrum if they lose as we all lose. Bought it for my daughters 2nd birthday and we still play now (she’s 4) albeit with her younger brother. I’ve got my money’s worth !

This is a great first game, our 3 year old loves it. It’s beautifully made and easy to use. Would definitely recommend.

Best Christmas boardgame ever - takes literally 30seconds for an adult to understand the rules (you spend most of your time looking for more of them). My niece loved the pieces and especially the cute little crow, and she loved playing the game although, of course, she doesn't actually understand how to play the game (she's 2 years old). She does enjoy it a lot, though, and I am really surprised how well this introduction to boardgames has worked.

This is a beautiful game. My 4 year old loves playing games so this is a really nice one for him to play with his 2 year old brother. It's very simple but helps teach youngest how to take turns and allows him to feel involved as we can all play this with him. The pieces are so well made. We really like Haba as a brand. Would recommend this game for a 2nd birthday present.
