Upgraded from 5000 to 9000... Worth it?
I've been using a 5000 series for a couple of years, over all the 5000 is a great trimmer but I found myself accidentally changing lengths as I change grip during cuts which wasn't ideal. Anyway, decided to re-do my bathroom, out with the old in with new... and I splashed out on the 9000 series. Mechanically, seems much the same as the 5000 which was slightly disappointing at first, not sure what I was expecting at the 5000 cut perfectly well - but once charged, soon I came to really enjoy the digital interface on the 9000, just knowing the battery level was nice compared to times past where the the light just starts flashing red mid-cut. The Memory setting is pretty crucial, I found myself able to tap the memory setting and do the sides / top & even went over my beard just fine. Note: To set memory (when turned off) select the desired length, hold the M until the 1 flashes on the right hand side, then release & hold M again for about 5 seconds and the screen with say "SET" when stored... just tap the M to switch to 1>2>3, and hold the button again to store it. And discovering the cutter Locks the length when you power it on was great, no longer will I accidentally shift up/down lengths by mistake. "Auto-Turbo" concerned me slightly, as generally I've found with all my philips cutters I turn it on and hit the turbo button - that's just how it is! but the automatic really doesn't need much/any noticeable resistance before the Turbo function kicks in and it leaves it running for a few seconds, much to my surprise it was pretty seamless. Overall - The cut is great, ergonomically it worked just fine never felt uncomfortable, love that it locks the length, memory settings are great for bouncing between lengths & no longer will I think to myself do I usually do this a 8 or a 10.. it's simply what I stored. So, I'm glad I went 9000 series and short of a huge price jump - it's just what I'll buy in future.

Very smooth cut - worth the money
Bought this recently to replace my Babyliss clipper that was starting to snag a bit and wasn't holding its charge - barely managing to get through even one hair cut. My girlfriend took it to my head today and I'm really surprised by how smooth it was - it doesn't pull and no matter how thick the hair was it seemed to glide through it easily. She also said it's very light but much easier to handle than the Babyliss so a thumbs up from her :) The motorised combs are probably a bit of a gimmick and for me the chances are I won't really need to use many of the settings as I just tend to go for a short back and sides - but having the options there certainly do no harm, and the displays do make the device look pretty snazzy :) Having come from a traditional hair clipper with standard barber grade combs I found what the lengths were for each barber comb (I use 2 and 3) and then added the settings to the memory (the clipper comes with 3 combs and allows 3 settings to be stored for each comb, a great time saver). As I wasn't sure how the the traditional barber grades would translate into mm I used slightly longer settings initially and then gradually reduced the lengths until I got it just right - I then saved these to memory ready for the next time. On the whole this is a really good clipper but being able to set your length settings by .1 of a mm increments thus giving 400 settings is probably a bit overkill and the motorised comb are a but gimmicky but still, they do a great job and cut through even thick hair like a knife through butter. Really great value for money and also looks really nice, with a good weight and the maintenance free titanium blades should ensure they stay sharp for many years. An excellent product!

Great hair clipper to cut lengths up to grade 13
I already owned a Philips 7000 clipper but wanted to cut a longer length than the 23mm possible with that product. The series 9000 allows you to cut 1-42mm plus 0.5mm without combs. For context, 42mm allows you to cut up to just over grade 13 (41.2mm). The battery was still going strong at the end of my first 'learning' trim which was longer than any subsequent uses will ever take. The 3 length combs are easy to change although I wish you didn't have to change just to go from grade 3 to 2 (smallest comb is 1-7mm). 3 length presets can be saved for each comb (9 total) which is very useful. I spent 10mins saving presets before my first use which saved time and hassle later. The shape and weight of the 9000 clippers is similar to the 7000 so I'm happy with the handling. I think the 9000 has slightly better looks. These clippers are a symmetrical design so I found them easy to use with both hands.

Fantastic clipper on the marker for longer haircuts
Best hair clipper out there for longer haircuts. All the other brands assume that you want to be bald and the combs stop at about 1 inch. Some do supply slightly longer combs (Wahl, for example) but they are made of cheap bendy plastic that can give your hair a very uneven look since the comb moves/bends whilst you cut. The Philips clipper has a very sold plastic guard that does not move at all - no need to worry about it going squiffy. You can get very long settings on here and so are not restricted to looking like you just joined the military as you are with other clippers. I'm super pleased with this clipper having previously used Wahl. The ONLY problem is the RIDICULOUS system for changing the cutting length - slide your finger on the touchpad and it zooms from 20mm to 40, tap it and it goes up one... or down one.. then up 5... or down 10... or zoom straight back to 10mm. Really there is little rhyme or reason to this gizmo and it can take a while to get the setting you want! They only needed 2 buttons - up + down. They have sacrificed functionality for looking cool. Other than that, the best clipper on the market!

My last Philips hair trimmer lasted for over 10 years so it made sense to buy another one. The only thing I didn't notice was that the electrical plug was for the UK, not Australia.
