Victron will give you the best bang for your buck!
This is a much better battery monitor than another one I tried that (even with having to purchase the temp sensor separately) in the end cost about the same for the same ampacity. I had nothing but problems with the old one with a name starting with R and decided to return it. The Victron app has far more info and options than the other one [and] unlike the other one, you [do not] need an online account of which you have to be logged on to use the app to connect to the battery monitor (or other devices) that you purchased and own! Yes, that's right, full access via Bluetooth with an app you don't need an account for. If you want an account, it's available but not necessary. I have had it connected (connection was easy and straight forward, especially in a tight area) and in use for several months now and really appreciate being able to track state of charge, battery temperature, currant usage, level of solar or shore power charger input of which all can be displayed graphically with the app. If you have other Victron components like a solar charge controller, they can connect wireless to each other to share necessary data. The SmartShunt is worth the money to give you peace of mind and removing guess work about how much charge you have left and if your charging systems are working properly. It is solid and reliable, I have not had any problems with it! I highly recommend it to anyone who fully utilizes their battery systems for offgrid or boondocking trips.

Well though out, easy to install, works well
I am a fan of Victron. The products are well design/made and easy to instal and setup. The shunt provides great information on charge, current used, and battery temp (and I bought the temperature add on) and safety for a reasonable price and takes up a small space. Initially, I did not have battery BMS's that gave me information, so this worked well on providing a state of charge and discharge and power consumed and temperature of the batteries . Now that I have the batteries with BMS's that report their individual charge, discharge and temp, it is not as important but still good. In this new battery scenerio case, the shunt and BMS the BMS did not agree on the state of charge when the the batteries reported they each had 78% capacity and the shunt said 62% but I just needed to recalibrate the shunt when it was at 100% capacity. Also, if you put a AC/DC charger or solar chargers (I have a Victron), it does not seem to recognise the increased voltage... . There are some setup features of the shunt battery setup that I have not researched, so this may be compensated by those values.

Top-Notch Battery Monitor for Serious Power Management!
The Victron Energy SmartShunt IP65 Battery Monitor is an absolute game-changer for anyone looking to keep a close eye on their battery system. I installed it in my RV setup, and the accuracy and level of detail it provides are outstanding. It gives me real-time data on battery voltage, current, state of charge, and more, all through the easy-to-use VictronConnect app on my phone. What sets this product apart is the IP65 rating, making it dustproof and water-resistant, so I know it’s durable and reliable even in rough conditions. The installation was surprisingly simple, and the fact that it’s a shunt-only monitor means it’s compact and doesn’t clutter up my dashboard. I love how it tracks energy consumption and efficiency, giving me the peace of mind that I won’t be caught off-guard by a low battery. Whether you’re managing an RV, boat, or off-grid solar setup, this monitor is essential for keeping your power systems in top shape. Highly recommend for anyone who takes power management seriously!

Excellent Quality Product and a Good Price. Good interface with the Victron App
Works perfectly for my 200AH 24v Lifepo4 battery system. Easy setup and installation. The app works well with the bluetooth. Shows accurate charge and discharge data. Waterproof and durable construction. One bit of advice is to take a picture of the PIN number on the unit before installation. You will need it to set the device up in the Victron app.

May it is waterproof and maybe it's just resistant?
(300A) This device gives the State of Charge (SOC) that is so helpful in an RV application. I haven't had that in the previous solar/battery/alternator/generator/shore power system. One confusion is the description on Amazon says it's waterproof. When I got mine, it says it is not and I need it to be waterproof as it is outside with the battery. So now I am wondering if it is or is not waterproof. If anyone has a clear understanding that would be helpful. The last line of the description says, "water and dust resistant" which I don't think is good enough. Will be waterproofing somehow even though this is the description: ALL-IN-ONE WATERPROOF SMART BATTERY MONITOR: The Victron SmartShunt IP65 is a smart all in one battery monitor that provides detailed battery insights on your phone. It enables smart functionalities and optimized charging by wirelessly sharing live battery data with other devices in your system. It’s water and dust resistant and easy to (retro)fit into any system.

Defective.
First one lasted 2 days before it died. The second one was dead on arrival. I’m going to order 1 more so hopefully third time is the charm. I’ve read great things about this product. But I have had horrible luck so far. Edit: Third one came in and working great so far. Hopefully I was just unlucky with the first 2.

As compared to the previous (non-IP65) version
Update (4/10/23): Added this in "energy monitor" mode, before the inverter. Also added a 3-D printed cover to the top of the shunt (STL available on printables{dot}com). Update (2/12/23): Current inventory of VE products: (2) 100V/50A, (2) 100V/30A, (1) 100V/20A, (1) SmartShunt IP67 (newer), (1) SmartShunt (older), (1) BatterySense. Best feature is the VE.Smart networking feature, which allows the components to work together to optimize charging of the battery bank. Summary: This is the newest version of the SmartShunt, and the biggest improvement is the IP65 rating made possible by the conversion of external wire connections to pre-connected wires. Current solar/PV system specs: 4kW of panels (most are 100W panels); 24-volt, 21kWh marine AGM battery bank; 3500W inverter; VE SmartSolar MPPT controllers: 20A (one), 30A (two), 50A (one); battery sense monitor (one). Observations: Currently have the previous version of the SmartShunt 500A, and use that for a subset of the battery bank. One of Victron's best features is the ability to network the controllers together, so that you don't over charge your batteries. I am running four (4) VE MPPT controllers, and 75% of the panels feed into those, but I have a few other test MPPT controllers as well, so having the capability for the VEs to stop charging (absorption and float) is very important to prevent over charging your batteries. Recommendation: If you're trying to determine whether the extra $30 for the IP65 is warranted, it really comes down to whether you need a highly waterproof solution. For a vehicle mount, that would be extra assurance that your shunt doesn't get flooded and stop working. Victron is very good about firmware updates, and the technology in shunt monitoring hasn't really changed, so from a current monitoring perspective, I do not foresee any different performance between the two. Pros: IP65 rating; bluetooth (SmartSolar); VE iPhone/iPad app works well; VE networking. Cons: built-in wires cannot be modified (shortened/lengthened); at time of review, the IP65 version is $30 more than the previous version. Conclusion: At $160, rating this 5-stars. A Must-Have Upgrade When Switching to Lithium Batteries
When we upgraded our RV battery system to lithium, I quickly realized that guessing battery status just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. That’s where the Victron SmartShunt completely changed the game. Installation was straightforward, and once it was in place, I paired it with the Victron app and instantly had access to detailed, real-time battery information. Being able to see state of charge, voltage, current draw, and usage history right on my phone gives me total confidence in how our system is performing. No more wondering how much power we really have left or how hard the batteries are being worked. The Bluetooth connection has been rock solid, the IP65 rating adds peace of mind, and the app layout is clean and easy to understand. For anyone upgrading their RV to lithium batteries, this is not just a nice accessory—it’s essential. I honestly wouldn’t run a lithium setup without it. Highly recommended, 5 stars.
