A really great start for learning some simple words and sounds for my son (5) and I (quite a bit older.)

Sweet and pretty book

Great for first time learners

Has a nice pronunciation guide and other helpful tips at the start. Beautiful pictures and high quality thick pages. Actually has a nice rhyme and rhythm which I have found a lot of alphabet books lack. The alphabet descriptions give some japanese cultural norms and then have further little tidbits that you could also read. We like it, my toddler likes it, my mom likes it.

I bought this book for my American and Canadian bosses who have Japanese wives and who just had their first children. It was a gift from all of the employees and was a huge hit when it arrived. The illustrations are gorgeous and the rhyming poems on each page are so clever. In addition, there are annotations about cultural and pronunciation differences!! So wonderful. I'm actually considering getting it for my first child (my husband and I are both American but we live in Japan). I wish this book existed for other languages too!

Beautiful book

I bought this book for my North American bosses whose Japanese wives recently had their first children. It caught my eye for the ABC aspect and lovely watercolor illustrations; however, this book turned out to be even more of a gem than I'd originally thought, with its clever rhyming making the cultural and linguistic tidbits even more catchy for readers young and old. Having given birth to our child in Japan, my husband and I plan to buy a copy for his bookcase now in the U.S.

My son is read this everyday. He loves it. The pictures are gorgeous.
