Solid book!
The book is good. Has a lot of useful information. It is a bit choppy in the way it is put together but the information is solid.

Very pleased
The book is carefully written in plain English and organised in easy-to-follow short passages. Daniella Moyla has a knack for making complex things simple and illustrating her points with highly relevant examples. The mind map outlining different question types is clear and informative, all examples are of consistent quality and have a convincing natural feel. I like how they read very well but without that sense of algid, unnatural perfection I’ve found in some books, or the discouraging feeling that only a gifted native speaker could have produced them.

Excellent book for the IELTS preparation
This book contains excellent material which is useful in preparation for the IELTS Academic test. The author of the book addresses both Writing Task 1 and Writing Task and provides grammar structures, common mistakes, text structuring strategies, types of essays, etc. Overall, this book has helped me to pass the IELTS academic test and acquired a band score which I needed, zobarsts. I want to thank you the author for writing this useful book.

8+? Some lines are shocking
I read this book page after page and despite of the fact that I've actually been living and working full time in an English speaking country for 2 yrs, I scored 6.5 (the same score for years, hmm. Despite of preparation courses, specifically for academic writing.) 0.5 less of what I "need" and always & only in writing. Interesting. So, how do you know these essays would be marked 8.0 by someone else? The evaluation process feels vague and subjective (see below). It's worth mentioning that once you submit your writing task, you'll most probably never see it again. Transparency...? Anyway, what I find really upsetting is the following (page 50): "... The examiner, and we need to make this guy happy. Right away, I want the examiner when they have a pile of writings in front of them, and they might not feel well, they might be hungry, they might have had an argument with their boyfriend or girlfriend; they might just be sick of a pile of writings." Excuse me, I am not paying over 200 Euro per test to make someone happy or to entertain them, and I wish, for the sake of all whose careers and studies are literally dependent on this, that the teachers were in a condition that allows them to do their job. I paid around 170 pounds for my last writing part to be reviewed and even the thought of not passing it because someone was "hungy" or had "an argument with their boyfriend", makes my blood boil. I understand author's point and this review partially reflects my experience with IELTS (writing) in general, but this in not acceptable. I have not achieved any improvment with this publication and, unfortunately, with any other. IELTS has lost my trust for good.

Easy Understanding
I bought this book, but I haven't used it much, because there are a variety of resources a little more flexible and interactive on the internet to prepare for the IELTS.

There is no alternative way to achieve a good score in IELTS then practice and this book is fully intrigued to making it easy for every students to understand the writing task and step-by-step on how to develop well-organized answers for the Task 1 + Task 2 Writing; clearly explains the different types of questions that are asked for Task 1 + Task 2; and also step-by-step instructions on how to write each type of report and essay excellently. I really enjoyed practicing from this book as the author has provided some excellent proven formulas, tips, strategies, explanations, structures, Task 1 + Task 2 language, vocabulary, reports and model essays which will just won't help but also will guide to go through the right way. This is really a must have book for every IELTS students. Very much recommended.

必要最小限のレクチャーで、かつ、十分に高スコアをねらえる本だと思う。 試験まで何度も読み返そうと思う。 "every sentence has its own purpose"の文言が気に入った。

I only had four weeks to prepare for the IELTS Academic and wanted to focus on improving my weaker point which was the Writing part of the test. If you are already an advanced English student and are time constrained, Dr Mitchell's book will definitely help you achieve a high score. There is plenty of useful advice on the nature and structure of the essays, the vocabulary to describe trends, tenses, making an argumentation, common grammar mistakes etc. IELTS is more about understanding the exam requirements and format than your mastery of English language -but you still need to have good level though :-). I scored an overall 8.0 on my test, and this book played a major part in my grade. This book had an excellent return on investment ratio in my situation. The only reasons I haven't given 5 stars are for a few typos here and there, and for the lack of page numbers.
