Makes a massive difference to older machines.
I bought these to test them out with a 3d printer that was running an old Creality 3d max 4.2.2 silent board. One of the ones where Creality cheaped out and only used the silent drivers for the x and y axis. I had upgraded the printer to direct drive and this meant that with no Bowden tube to absorb interference the print quality was suffering badly. I had tried all the usual tricks of changing settings and even changing the extruded to dual geared but it did not fix the problem. Putting a smoother on the extruder circuit immediately fixed the problem. Obviously smoothers do have down sides and boards with silent drivers are a preferable option but these do work well. For reference in the picture left to right is: with smoother, with dual geared extruder, with singled gear extruder.

Cheap upgrade
Bought these to smooth the prints on my ender printer, seems to work, not sure how much of an improvement. haven't done a side by side comparison but they seem slightly better than my earlier prints I also noticed the screen doesn't light up if you push the bed when switched off. For the price worth fitting even for a minor improvement

Works great on a Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus
These smoothers have significantly improved the prints I'm able to obtain from my printer. Attaching a smoother to the Y stepper motor removed much of the 'salmon' skin texture and diagonal banding I was seeing on my prints; while the smoother attached to the Extruder motor had a more subtle but still noticeable effect, making prints less noisy and improving the definition of each layer.

Worthwhile mod/upgrade.
I upgraded to a Micro Swiss All Metal Hotend on my Monoprice Maker Select Plus, and noticed that salmon skin affect. One of these solved the issue. It's installed externally, between the stepper motor and extruder mainboard, using a mount/case found on Thingiverse. I haven't bothered to install them on X or Z. I may in the future.

Works but probably not needed on my printer
Put on the x and y for my ender 3 pro. Definitely getting smoother prints but it's hard to tell. The improvement is not huge. No difference in sound

Worked for me
I know some will say these are pointless. But they improved the surface finish on my ender 3 prints. One thing to note; they do get hot while in use, so give them some space between them and the main board. Plus plenty of ventilation.

Smother..
Ease of use and it does help quiet the print

Made no difference on Ender 3
Wish I had researched these more - they make no difference on the Ender 3/Ender 3 Pro boards. Sure they are well suited for older drivers, just not required on newer printers

I got a BigTreeTech Smoother V1 and so far the results are a drastic improvement. Completely eliminated salmon skin/zebra stripes on my Ender 3 Pro, and the motor makes less noise. Cheap and quite easy to install, all in all a big thumbs up from me. I installed one on the x axis, one on the y axis and one on the extruded motor. My only complaint is that it could have been packaged a bit better. Mine didn’t come with any damage, but i can imagine it wouldn’t be that difficult to damage during shipping.
