Protec Cleaning Ball

Don't go longer than 2mos if you use your humidifier everyday like I do. Remember to change it out when it's time. They actually work to keep your water and unit clean n fresh. When my humidifier runs out and I'm done using it, I dump out the water, so there's none of that build up in the humidifier, where I guess the water leaves a red film in the unit. I dump all the water out and leave it to dry out until I'm ready for it again. This helps with the longevity of this little purifier to keep the water and unit clean for my next use. Checking the type of water you're using in the unit can also help with your cleaning options between hard or soft water... Unless you're using bottled water... This is a good purchase. It works!

I love this product. The problem with most humidifiers is the high bacterial growth in the water. You can tell by the musty smell in the air from the dirty and contaminated water in the tray and in the tank. Clean steam has no odor. I am doing this review based on the specific humidifier machine I own, the Honeywell Model HCM 630. I live in NYC in an overheated apartment during the cold months. My husbands and I got a lot of cold, dry coughs, dry skin and nose bleeds from the heated dry air that was why I bought this machine two years ago to alleviate our suffering. There are three hidden maintenance steps that every humidifier owner must perform that the manufacturer of the humidifier usually did not mention in their instruction booklet in order to keep the humidifier hygienic. The first, one must keep the tank and the water scrupulously clean by scrubbing the inside of the tank, the inside of the lid while changing the water daily. The second, once a month, after cleaning the tank, you drop one of these Protec cartridges in the tank and let it do its work as it helps slow down growth and migration of mold, fungus, algae, and bacteria in the water and on the filter. The third and just as necessary as the other two, replace the big round filter monthly or as often as every two weeks especially if you keep the humidifier running 24/7. If you do all three steps regularly, you'll enjoy the clean steam that helps protect your mucus membranes from drying out (much healthier for all of us) during the winter months and one added bonus, not being zapped by static shocks when touching another person or a metallic object when the humidifier is operating.

Just drop it in the tank of the humidifier & that's all. It does the rest. Much easier to clean Or have to clean out the humidifier as often. Keeps gunk from building up too. I feel the moisture is more clean now. I like that it has the use of the silver technology, which goes back to years and years ago. Very safe, very effective. Recommend to everyone!

Our home is dry during the winter, especially in the bedroom. I always put off breaking out the humidifier because of how tedious the upkeep is. Let’s be real, nobody uses strictly distilled water in their humidifier, which means reddish build up accumulating on the internals every few tanks of water. This takes care of that almost entirely. I used to take it apart once a week and scrub it all out. Now I’m only doing it if it looks as though it needs it, which is once a month. Piece of cake.

There may have been a slight decrease in the pink slime that grows in the humidifier. I have only used them for one month in 2 different humidifiers. I bought more so will see how it goes and update if it is better.

Our Vicks Humidifiers are used for medical reasons and the purification of the mist-less air is important, for numerous reasons. We need a continuous supply of Protec Balls. Any/all help to buy four to eight at a time is appreciated. Thank you.
