The 1%: Conquer Your Consulting Case Interview: Unlock the secrets behind modern case and fit interviews and join the one percent that breaks into ... (Consulting Case Interviews and Careers) : Smeritschnig, Dr. Florian: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: One of the most comprehensive consulting case interview guides out there today - The 1% is simply amazing and is the best consulting preparation guide that I have found. Having been preparing for my consulting interviews for a while, I wasn’t expecting this book to teach me much, but was I wrong! 1. The book is probably the most comprehensive guide on the topic of consulting interviews out there. Having read Case in Point and Case Interview Secrets, I was pleasantly surprised by how the book covers the process end-to-end, including fit, mindset, how candidates are evaluated, and even interview wardrobe. These are areas which are mostly neglected by the current literature on consulting interviews. Florian acknowledges these gaps in the currently available literature on the topic, demonstrating how the book isn't just another generic cash grab with little insight that you can find for free on the Internet. 2. The 1% also offers incredible depth. Given the breadth of topics covered, one would expect the advice to be quite superficial, but it was the complete opposite! Florian’s vast experience in case interview coaching really shines through here as the content was both very nuanced and different from the outdated approaches taught by the common case books. 3. Despite the sheer amount of content contained within the book, I never once found it a slog to get through. Everything was presented in a clear, easy-to-read, and (most importantly) digestible way. Another aspect that is fantastic about the book is how each chapter can be read in any order- this is particularly useful as it caters to complete beginners with little case interview experience who would want to read from start to finish, as well as intermediate to advanced interviewees who may only want to pick certain chapters to bolster their knowledge. If you are preparing for consulting interviews, this should be your go-to book. I can honestly say that nothing out there even comes close to this. I have already recommended to this several friends, and am glad I am interviewing soon, because this book is going to raise the level of competition! Review: Essential buy for interview preparation - My friend first bought and recommended this book as he had heard good things about it. I was sceptical at first because it could have just been ‘another get into management consulting’ book amongst the hundreds out there. That being said I read the reviews and there were over 40 review that were 5 out of 5 stars. This caught my eye. I took the plunge and bought the book. To be honest upon reflection it was a great buy. The book is broken down into sections throughout the whole application, preparation and interview process which are easy to navigate and read. It exposes the hidden layers under the cases to help you understand how to tackle and approach most cases and dispels myths you read online. I read this book first and wrote notes. In addition, I also did parallel reading with various online resources eg blogs / videos / prep websites and found that this book consolidated all the information out there in one handy guide. In essence the book has done all the hard work and research for you and as it was published in 2023, gives you the most up to date information. I feel that buying reading this book first has helped me to approach cases better by ensuring I learn the right approach with the right mindset early on to ensure I do not learn bad habits. In summary its an essential buy that will be key for interview preparations.

If you don’t know where to start, Florian’s book is the way to go! It stood out to me because it is the most update playbook on the market. It sets the scene and provides you with a step-by-step guide on how to prepare and the basics of case + behavioural interviews. If you want to go a step beyond, Florian even provides coaching session. His feedback is very insightful and he gives a lot of reassurance throughout the process and lets you know if you’re on track to succeed! Super exhaustive book for case prep!!
This book really covers everything you need to know for case prep!! Florian clearly outlines the different sections of a case interview and describes what the interviewer is looking for and how you can approach the questions. He also includes a lot of small remarks around timings and good habits to get into and what to do if you make a mistake or are stuck, which are very useful! Two sections I found especially useful were 1) the structuring section, where Florian outlines different ways to approach a case structuring question that can be applied to any context, rather than outlining generic frameworks, and 2) the math section where he lists a lot of small tips and tricks that can really improve your case math!

The 1%: Conquer Your Consulting Case Interview: Unlock the secrets behind modern case and fit interviews and join the one percent that breaks into McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and other top firms is a great book. It offers a comprehensive and in-depth guide to the entire interview process, including often overlooked areas such as fit and interview attire. The author, Florian, recognizes the gaps in current guides that are out there and provides valuable insights, making it stand out from more general resources. Florian Schmeritschnig’s The 1%: Conquer Your Consulting Case Interview is one of the best modern resources on case interview preparation I’ve read. Unlike some of the classic books (Victor Cheng, Marc Cosentino, David Ohrvall), which still have value but feel a bit dated, this book offers a fresher, more structured and practice-oriented perspective. What I appreciated most is how the author emphasizes building hypothesis trees instead of just listing factors, formulating a working hypothesis right from the start, and keeping control of the case rather than following the interviewer’s lead. The focus on speed, clarity in math, active listening, and concise communication resonates strongly with real consulting expectations. I also found the sections on final recommendations and post-case reviews particularly insightful. Presenting your conclusion as if you are closing a deal, with clear next steps and risk awareness, is exactly how candidates should approach the “closing.” And the idea of making post-mortem analysis mandatory after every case is spot-on - progress only comes through reflection and iteration. Overall, this book distills key lessons that truly separate the top 1% of candidates. If you are serious about consulting interviews, it’s a must-read alongside regular practice.

If you believe one moment can change your life, this is the moment! Don’t hesitate, just add this book to your cart! This is definitely the kind of "read this book before asking any questions" book. In today’s noisy internet world, it’s rare to find such a comprehensive, one-stop guide. As you dive into this book, you can immediately sense Dr. Florian Smeritschnig’s expertise and genuine desire to help candidates succeed. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to break into the consulting arena. It breaks down complex concepts into clear, actionable strategies, helping readers understand each stage of the consulting interview process. You'll be amazed by the depth and breadth this book covered. It is worth every penny! I also suggest checking out the Dr. Florian Smeritschnig’s website. It offers tons of incredible articles and resources to support you at every step of the recruitment process.

The book definitely breaks the mould of the typical case interview literature. It begins with a thorough overview of the whole hiring process and highlights the differences between the firms, as well as the differences between the hiring tracks (interns vs graduates vs experienced hires). It also gives you a practical game-plan, and if you read it carefully, you will pick up on subtle cues for your communication strategy - whom you will be talking to at each stage of the process. Even if you are not planning to work in consulting, this is a valuable resource to understand how consulting world works and how you can train yourself to think like a consultant to solve real-world problems effectively - how to structure your problem, find appropriate frameworks, develop a hypothesis-driven mindset and communicate your findings. Another important aspect of this book is typesetting and layout. The designers who worked on the book did a great job to improve your reading experience. Highly recommend it to anyone who is striving to make this world a better place.
