Q: It says "hardware raid". what is default (0 or 1)? how do you change from raid 0 to raid 1 (or back)

"0" means that the information is being written to only one of the hard drives. It will begin writing to the second drive when the first drive is full. "1" means that the information is being written to both drives at the same time. I use 1 because I want my information to be backed up, in case one of the drives crashes. This also means that the storage capacity is cut in half. I had to call tech support to figure out how to change from 0 to 1. The guy on tech support was very impatient, but we got the job done.

Q: What is the available storage capacity by raid types (for 0, 1, and jbod) for the 8tb device?

With ANY brand of drive supporting those modes: RAID 0 = full capacity RAID 1 = half capacity JBOD = full capacity, each drive acting alone (2x4TB on this unit) Keep in mind that with any hard drive, formatted capacity comes up a bit smaller than the box says because the hard drive manufacturers one method of measuring size while the OS uses another. So this one would provide 7+TB formatted, not a full 8TB.
