Brabantia Lift-O-Matic - 60 Metres.
Having spent an embarrassingly long time reviewing rotary airers online, I bought the Brabantia Lift-O-Matic- 60 Metres. Really pleased I did. I was a bit worried about the ground spike, we have very ‘stoney’ grass and I wasn’t convinced it would go in at all - let alone straight, but it did. This is a really good quality item. Sturdy, well made, with so much space for clothes and bed linen. The lift action on this is a dream - it glides effortlessly to the highest setting. It is a lovely height for me, I’m 5ft 6, and I can walk past it without fear of banging into the corner arms. I wasn’t sure if the 60 metres would look too big for where I wanted it, a small corner of my garden, but it is perfect. I wanted to keep the lines clean, so I bought the Brabantia Premium Protective Cover separately, available on Amazon. Really worth buying, very good quality, with zip to make it easier to put on - looks good too.

Sturdy washing line with plenty of hanging space and wide lines .
Good quality, I like the space between the lines so the air flow can dry the washing faster. The washing line fills good quality heavy and sturdy plenty of hanging space. We are happy so far. it was also delivered on time, no problems 😊

Quality rotary clothes dryer.
Great rotary dryer with galvanised ground spike. Arrived well packaged and few days after ordering. You can drive the ground spike into the ground if you wish, but I preferred to concrete in place. The dryer opens easily and the height is fully adjustable. Construction is good and the dryer should last a long time is looked after. I've bought a zip up cover to put over it when not in use. All in all a good quality rotary dryer.

Overall, Good. But read on...
Pros: 1. Very robust once installed 2. Large drying area for clothes 3. Easy to put the arms up and down Cons: 1. Ground spike is VERY large (width & length), comes in parts and needs "constructing". The bolts provided didn't go in the drilled holes very easily at all so needed lots of effort to be done up using a different Allen key to that provided 2. Per 1. above it takes a LOT of effort and strength to bang the large spike (approx 12-14 inches long) into the ground (just hope you don't have rocks or stone under there!)

Well worth the price
Bought this rotary dryer to replace a cheap shoddy DIY store dryer that didn't last that long. Interestingly, the Brabantia didn't cost that much more. I guess the DIY chains rely on buyer apathy rather than going on-line to find much better products at cheaper prices. I decided to buy on-line after reading the lengthy number of reviews on this product courtesy of Amazon. The Brabantia arrived by courier well packaged with clear simple for installation. The Lift-O-Matic (don't you love the name - so 1950's) is large. It's diameter, across the extended arms is three meters - that's ten feet in old money. So, you might want to check the area you where want to locate it is large enough. I located mine in the same spot as the old one but the Lift-O-Matic's footprint is much bigger. The Lift-O-Matic is very well made. It's central column is quite wide - twice that of my old dryer. Raising and lowering the Lift-O-Matic is very simple as there are a series of retaining holes all the way up the central column allowing the locking mechanism to be clipped into place to adjust the level of tension on the line according to the user's preference. Extending the arms via the column mechanism is simple and needs surprisingly little effort. The unit is covered by a five year guarantee which reflects the manufacturer's confidence in its product. One word of advice which other reviews don't seem to cover. The Lift-O-Matic comes with a ground spike that needs to be driven into the ground first. The spike is around forty five centimers long - eighteen inches. If your ground is hard, you'll need to make sure its well watered first to soften it up. Driving the spike into the ground gets progressively harder the deeper it goes. You will need a block of wood to cover the top part of the assembly and something like a lump hammer - an ordinary one won't do as it will be too light. Don't be tempted to hammer straight on to the metal assembly - you will damage it and the dryer's central column won't fit in the spike's central hole. Also, you will need to check you are driving the spike into the ground straight. Believe me, this isn't easy. I kept checking whether the central column was perpendicular with a spirit level until the spike was fully located. You don't want to find you have driven the spike all the way into the ground and find, when you locate the dryer that it is leaning to one side. The spike's internal hole for the central column is lined with plastic to prevent metal on metal contact - nice touch. It also comes with a bright red plug cover if you plan to remove the Lift-O-Matic for an extended period, say, over the winter - another nice touch. If I could give the Lift-O-Matic six out of five (homage to Spinal Tap), I would. It's a very well designed, well made product at a very reasonable price.

Excellent!
Product arrives in a large cardboard box that is about two meters long. It’s a nicely finished product. Looks expensive. It's mostly in one piece. Removing the outer plastic film and the ground-spike falls out, which has been split in half. I am not completely sure why they supplied it in two halves, but it only takes a minute to join them together. While the spike is strong, the moment I looked at it I realised it was not going in my soil. My back garden in heavy, compacted clay soil. No way it would go in to that. So, change of plan, I had to dig a "post hole" in ground and pop out for some quick-set concrete. I used a couple of pieces of wood and cable ties to point the pole straight up, then surrounded the spike with concrete, fairly dry so it didn’t ingress in to the hole in the spike, and left it be for a few hours. No doubt it will move, in time, but for the moment it’s vertical and strong. Using the line, it's very smooth to lift and nice and tall so you can get the washing well off the floor. It's also easy to adjust the line so the height is lower for people of a lesser loftiness. Everything works very well. Pleased with the purchase. It's worth the extra little money it costs. Recommended.

Smooth operating, brilliant dryer
After several years of use I had to replace on old green rotary dryer which was already in place when we moved in a number of years ago. My mother used a Lift-O-Matic and I thought that would be best as it is possible to change the hight when needed. For some of the bedding or the rather long bath towels I like the rotary dryer just a little bit higher so that the washing does not brush the lawn. The thing to bear in mind when replacing any old dryer is that the diameter of the pole could be different. I was able to pull the plastic sleeve out of the concrete with no problems (alternatively it is wise to carefully measure the diameter) and took it with me to a store. It fitted the Brabantia rotary dryer perfectly, so that was reassuring but as it was more expensive in the store and rather long to transport in the car, I decided to order from amazon. No regrets. It is well made, the washing lines are not hanging in bows but always straight, it is a one hand operation to open it up like an umbrella, it is very lightweight and so we remove it for the winter season and place it in the garden shed, it is a very sturdy and strong construction which has coped with some very strong winds since we bought it last year. And because you can set the Lift-O-Matic to your own preferred height and can adjust this by moving the umbrella up or down inch-by-inch this is perfect for someone smaller, or when you want to air a heavy duvet on top of the structure. I do recommend to buy the Brabantia cover for it at the same time, to keep it always clean. Excellent buy!
