Side zip, wide handle, like a mini travel trunk! Loved it!!!
Waited to write this after taking it on both an over head carry on and checked style trips. I usually use a duffle bag with 2 side zip compartments for my shoes. I feel that it was the only feature that I was missing. The quality is great. Held up after being tossed around with minimal wear and scuffing. I am clumsy, it did get crashed into seats, walls, hallways, chairs with the arm extended high and did not break as other reviewers stated. Wheels smoothe 360’s and I love the design with wider handle. I was able to fit 3 pairs of Levis, 4 T shirts, pair of sambas, night gown, 4 pairs of socks & undies, 2 tanks and a sweatshirt, and room for my curling iron, a mini flat iron, my toiletary bad and make up bag. And a flannel. Wow! The side load made it easy for me to pack and allows for more items since you don’t have the zipper down the middle. I purchased the black one and received many compliments on the design and look. It was easy to spot because of its unique design. It is exactly the size of a carry on for the overhead bin, in case you get measured! The side and top handles to pick it up were awesome! The only flaw is that rectangular bags are not made to sit on top if they are heavy it will topple over when you wrap the strap over the wide handle. Conventional bags and backpacks are made with a slim strap to accommodate conventional luggage. Simple fix… wraps tote handle around when you are walking through the airport. Not an inexpensive piece of luggage for the features. I did read reviews about locks breaking off. I’ll update if they do.

Great!
Here are all my thoughts (in no particular order): 1) Love the smoke white color. Wish there was a slightly brighter white option but the smoke white is beautiful. The general overall look of the luggage is premium! 1b) I'm not really worried about how it will look after many flights. It's a carry on so it won't get the kind of beatings that a checked luggage does. 2) Love the wide handle. I am one of 10 people on the planet who still preferred the old school tilt-and-wheel luggage because I have always found the newer 360 kind to be sort of difficult. The new wide handle makes the luggage far more stable. I also love the bright orange accent there. The handle stops at a few different heights which is great because I'm shorter (5'5") but my roommate is taller (6'). It works for either of us and it adjusts SO EASILY and smoothly. 3) Love the open top style. It takes up less space when unpacking/packing and is easier to pack (for me). I am also trying to use a compressible hanging closet organizer when I travel and the open top style is much easier to use for that. If that's not how you pack, I still think the open top is easier to pack than a clam shell but it might be a less obvious difference. 3b) A minus of the open top style is that when the lid is open there's sort of a lip of hard plastic around the inner corners. Can make packing things in the corner annoying. Only fix I can imagine is making the opening larger. But it might be a problem no matter what. Definitely not a deal breaker for me. Just an annoyance. 4) The wheels glide real nice. Sometimes I just move the luggage around for fun. Like a giant adult-sized fidget spinner. 5) The zippers are a win(?). They zip smoothly, the long handles make them easy to grab, and I like that they lock into the suitcase. It's a cool feature that seems to be popping up on luggage of all brands. I haven't had any issues yet but I do wonder about the durability of the zippers when locked and getting tossed around at the airport. That's not just with this Hanke carry on but with nearly any piece of luggage that uses this style of zipper lock. If the worst happened and the handle of the zippers broke, I could add a new zipper pull but it wouldn't work with the lock. So still serviceable but not ideal. Again, this isn't a ding against the Hanke but a general concern about the style in general. I have only seen one piece of luggage from some random brand that had this zipper lock style AND a built-in cover over the zipper lock to protect it. I'd like to see that the next time they redesign this luggage. But definitely not a deal breaker for me yet, and it may come to pass that it's never a problem. Just something I noticed. Tl;dr: Love it. Very few, small complaints. EDIT: actually flew with this on a plane (4 flights) Reading point 1b makes me lol now. Went round trip 4 flights and for all 4 the airline made me check the luggage because the flight was full. Sooooo now the suitcase has spent some time on rolling ramps and in the bowels of an airplane. First, in terms of durability I’ve had no problems. Nothing has broken, zipper and wheels are just fine. Second, I got a bunch of compliments on the bag from airline workers (which really says something!) Now the disappointing: the really textured surface of the suitcase “catches” the softer black rubber that all of those luggage ramps are made of, depositing bits of black on all the scrapes on your luggage. The nice thing is, at least for smoke white, the color on the plastic exterior is through and through so you’re not getting color removed (instead the black rubbery stuff is getting deposited on). Ultimately you can scrub nearly all of it off with some patience. I included some pictures of the small sections I couldn’t clean all the way. There are now scratches on this luggage but they’re the same color as the luggage which sort of hides them. I tried to take pictures but it was hard to get them to show (which is kinda what I’m talking about). I don’t know if there’s any luggage out there that can survive the kind of abuse that airlines put out. If you don’t think you want to ever scrub your luggage (which is understandable haha) I would just advise you to pick one of this brand’s darker colors. EDIT TO ADD: I’ve literally never had a chance to use this as a carry on. 8 flights in and it always gets checked lol still works great but the black rubber deposits/scratches are annoying to scrub off. I don’t like being someone who cleans their luggage - I’ve got better things to do! As beautiful as smoke white is, if I did it all over I’d pick a darker color. Wish they always made the handle arms an accent color :)

All the right features
This is a one-of-a-kind suitcase with all the right features. We travel a lot and have owned many suitcases over the years. Though a bit heavy, this one is the best of all. It is very well made and sturdy. Everything on it works smoothly and appears to be durable: handles, zippers, locks, wheels, casing. It has a hard shell, but opens with a side panel rather than as a clamshell. This means that it doesn't need to be laid open in two halves which takes twice the floor or shelf space in a hotel room. This also means that the contents don't fall out of the top half when opening. The built-in TSA locks that secure the zipper pulls are another nice feature. The full-width retractable handle offers more leverage than the narrow handles on other suitcases, making this one easy to pull on its four gliding wheels. In addition, this wide handle enables increased interior depth because the handle sliders are in the corners rather than in the middle, making it easy to pack especially when using packing cubes. Also, the carrying handles fit nearly flush with the surface so that nothing but the wheels protrude. Finally, the unique structure and variety of colors offered make this suitcase easy to spot on a conveyor belt. After using it, we like it so well that we bought three more in different sizes!

Great opening. Not sure about the handle
This bag had many features I wanted and liked. I really prefer this opening vs a clamshell style. So much easier when living out of a suitcase. The suitcase rolled easy over many surfaces. No issues with using it on trains or planes. My one big complaint about it (and maybe a deal breaker) is that the handle is wide so no trolly sleeves fit it. I was not able to attach a carry-on bag/backpack to the suitcase while walking around. This wide handle is nice for packing but it's not as easy to use when walking around.

I am extremely disappointed with this suitcase. I used the suitcase once and the zipper already broke. The suitcase (especially the top flap and zipper) is very flimsy. Feels like a waste of money.

Looks aesthetically appealing. Uniquely beautiful piece. Unfortunately, it isnt a scratch free skin as advertised.

Perfect size for 1-2 week trips. Did 1 trip to Cuba so far. Luggage still looks great, minor scratches, but surprisingly, none of those nasty black rubber stains. The top opening is great for hotel luggage stands. Note to those complaining about scratches: I have never ever heard of luggage that does not get scratched. Be extremely careful when setting lock code. This one passed the YUL and SNU baggage trauma test. Will see in future if it stands up to 4-5 trips a year.

When you find something you like and it checks off all the boxes with regrets to the price, sometimes you take the risk and go for it. When the checked-in luggage arrived it look pretty good and I really didn’t want to make a mark on it at all so I invested in the plastic wrapping protection at the airport which cost an extra $35 but I just didn’t want to risk having a scratch. The poor thing had its first trip and it got some scars already. ☹️. There is lots of room for improvement for the anti scratch resistant for this product as it doesn’t live up to what the description says. ☹️
