The Tin Whistle Book | Beginner Instruction Book | Tutorial with Step by Step Lessons Diagrams and Traditional Tunes | Easy Tin Whistle Music Book for Music Learners and Home Practice : Maguire, Tom: desertcart.co.uk: Musical Instruments & DJ Review: As easy as 1 2 3 .... ! - This book is intended for the tin whistle tuned to D. After a brief introduction on tin whistles, the first section shows us how to play a B. So it shows the note on the staff so you can see which line the B lies on and also you have the fingering for the note on the page. The author does this for all of the notes, with extra tips and tricks. So we have some easy tunes to practise The practise tunes are as follows- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Frere Jaques Jingle Bells London Bridge In Dublins Fair City (cockles and mussels) Amazing Grace Scarborough Fair Here We Go Gathering Nuts In May The Irish Washerwoman Camptown Races For ornamentation (putting fancy notes in to jazz your piece up) it only gives the basic grace note...which is enough. There's more to learn but this is meant to be easy so it's enough to practise for now. So the first half of the book is learning the notes, and learning reading the music with easy tunes we all know. (If you are not sure of the note write it in pencil on the music. Do what you need to do to learn). Now the last half of this book is a selection of tunes from other countries. I was looking forward to the selection of tunes as shown in the desertcart listing.... unfortunately its not the same tunes. I don't know if it's because it's a later printing or what, but nope none of the ones I was looking forward to (I spent the night on YouTube listening to the tunes to see what I liked) much to my disappointment! Oh well some different tunes to discover instead!... the listing is as follows - Tae The Weavers Gin Ye Go He Piped So Sweet Skinny Malinky Langlegs Roll Her On The Hill Cam Ye O'er Frae France The Monaghan Jig More Of Cloyne The Dancing Master Paddy Doyle St Beag St Mor Sliabh Na MBan Egans Polka The Flax In Bloom A Kerry Slide A Hornpipe We Must All Wait Till Our Lady Comes Home The Girl I Left Behind Me The Tide Come In English Country Garden Morris March Vive La Canadienne En Roulant Ma Boule Ronfleuse Gobeil Pretty Saro Nimble Fingers From Frisco To Cape Cod Lady In The Boat Shall We Gather At The River Jaybird The Year Of The Jubalo Hela'r Sgyfarnog Y Gelynen Lady Owen's Delight The Swansea Hornpipe Le Pont De Morlaix Ma Franzez Ar Baradoz Me Anvez Eur Goulmik The Heel And Toe Polka The Pommy's Lament The Sydney Flash Click Go The Shears Boys It seems like a long list, but they are short little pieces. All in all a fun little book to learn from! There is also a finger chart at the back of the book to refer to which is most helpful. Now even though its a D whistle and C will normally be played as C# (sharp) there are some pieces where the C is a C natural. Do not worry there is the fingering for a C natural included on the chart. I quickly got through the book and I can now (very roughly!) play some tunes on a tin whistle!!! The best thing to do is turn to a page, pick the instrument up and play. It doesn't matter how good or bad you are .... just have fun with it, and by the time you've made your way through this little book, you will be wanting more! Review: Good quality - Nice easy book to learn from

A great little book
A great book but not for beginners as it has no audio.

Great learning material
This is a fantastic tutorial book for tin whistle playing perfect for the beginner no matter your age, the instructions are shown and explained in a way that makes you want to continue onto the next page and learn more, it's not boring or mundane, it keeps your interest glued. I'm not a person who's into self learning from a book, I'd rather listen to a song or watch a video playing and learn to follow that way. I studied music and read notes when I was in school but that was many many moons ago. This is why I like this book it's proving to work well for me and it keeps my interest peeked. Great tutorial with about 39 songs to play as well.

Excellent starter book.
This is a great wee book for beginners. I bought it as a present for someone who has no musical experience (apart from listening) & it manages to explain everything on the assumption that the reader knows nothing of reading music or playing an instrument but still manages to avoid sounding patronising. It shows the whistle fingering as if you're looking down on the whistle, as you are when you're playing it, instead of looking directly at it as is more common. Myself and another experienced whistle player were both there when said friend began with the book and we're both very impressed with it. It also has a good selection of beginners tunes which are recognisable without being overly cheesy.

das Heft ist für die paar Cent wirklich ohne Fehl und Tadel - einzige Einschränkung : das Bessere ist der Feind des Guten, will sagen es gibt für ca. 5 Euro eine schon ältere kleine (besonders kleinformatige) Sammlung von Weltbild, die einfach eine geniale Einführung Einführung und Auswahl Irische Lieder , die mich noch mehr begeistert; überhaupt ist die tin whistle eine geniale Erfindung, die ich jedem nur wärmstens ans Herz legen kann, nicht nur wegen Picars Lied , dem Herr der Ringe - Hobbits- ...; echter Suchtfaktor für ein paar Euro, mein Favorit der Susato-Nachbau für ein paar Euro, auch wenn der Klang weicher ist als bei einer typischen tin whistle; und Literatur und youtube-Videos gibt es wesentlich mehr als bei vielen anderen Instrumenten, notfalls mit wenig englisch; so, kann nicht genug schwärmen, aber es ufert sonst aus; ach - übrigens - als Einstieg unbedingt eine whistle mit key-D, der Standard; dafür gibt es die meiste Literatur;

simple to understand, and wonderful for a child or an adult who is a beginner ! .

It good be better if they would have given more instructions as far as playing
