One of the Best of the Bunch
This was a GREAT book, and the first one we used. We actually got several from the library, including the "My Big Boy Potty" book (see my review on that for more info). The combination of "Diapers Are Not Forever" and "My Big Boy Potty" was the best combination for us. While "Diapers" does not spend time on specific anatomy, it addresses the difference between boys and girls (we have a boy). And it also is clear about what they are doing in simple, easy language. "Girls sit down to pee and poop. Then they wipe and flush. Boys do the same, and also can pee standing up" - or something to that effect. Our son could, and often did, recite the whole book verbatim. This is part of a great series of books targeting specific issues with kids, along with great pictures. The end of the book had potty training pointers, which I do remember reading. But I referred to the potty training pointers more often at the back of "My Big Boy Potty." Not quite sure why, except perhaps because this was the first book we started with, and once our son had memorized it, he moved on to requesting "My Big Boy Potty." The good thing about that combination of 2 books is "Diapers" covers the whole thing in a short, but easy to understand way, at a higher level with a positive tone. Then "My Big Boy Potty" spends more time on the individual steps focusing on an individual boy with whom the child can identify and learn the specific steps for getting to pee and poop.

Good book for potty trainers
Overall, I would recommend this book for potty training. The language is simple, and the book is very straightforward. It lacks some details that could be helpful for a child new to having to think about the process, such as addressing the feeling of having to go potty. It uses a lot of “big kid” language (“use the potty like the big kids”, “big kid underwear”), which may or may not be something you want. In any case, this book was not applicable to my particular situation since the potty is not new or “for big kids” for my son, who has been doing elimination communication since infancy, but who will eventually have to transition out of diapers. However, I think it is a pretty good book for others doing a more conventional potty training approach and plan to give it to a friend.

I bought this book as I was gearing up for a weekend of "potty training bootcamp". My son responds well to books and I have the Hand are Not for Hitting book and the Teeth are Not for Biting book. This really helped introduce my son to potty training and he has responded well. This is his first week at nursery school without diapers and he's only had one accident so far. I love these books as they are quite diverse in terms of they show a diverse groups of people so many subgroups of people can identify with the characters which was important to me. I would recommend this book and have to friends who are potty training and the whole series of the books are great. I know I will be purchasing more of this series in the near future.

Perfect addition for any 2 or 3-year-old's library!
We have recently come to know this series and have been impressed with how age-related topics are presented and discussed. We bought this for our 2-year old since we have started potty training with her. When we read this book for the first time, she became immediately engrossed in the book - looking intently at the pictures, pointing out that one of the potty seats in the book was just like her potty seat, and even selecting her favorite panties pictured at the end of the book. She frequently pulls this book from the shelf and wants it read to her, or will "read" it on her own. The pictures are colorful and engaging and the book is durable. It is a quick read and very relevant for a little one in the process of transitioning out of diapers.

Helpful with Potty Training
Our son loves books so we purchased this to support him in potty training. We absolutely love this series and would highly recommend them. The other feature is a guide/resource page found at the end to give you tips and tricks.

I was looking for a book that will help me with potty training.. well the story is .. boring and to complicated for a small 2,5 year old child with no siblings! (she does not understand what are the big kids)... colors and drawings are nothing special. It failed to attract my daughter's attention and every time I pick it up she tells me "no mommy, not this story!"... not impressed!

Reading this book with my son was a helpful aid to get him to want to stop wearing diapers. We would read this book every night before bed and combined with some other strategies, we eventually got him to stop wearing diapers. For us, I think that this book did help in the process of potty training.

Very good book. For UK readers, just substitute the word nappy for diaper. We've had a number of potty training books mostly aimed at toddlers. This book shows both potty and toilet and children of varying ages both toddler and slightly older so would be good for the stubbon older child (like mine). It even depicts a urinal for boys, something I've not seen in other books! Simple straightforward text. __________________________________________________________________ A few days later and success! FINALLY!!!!! First poo on the toilet. Also used a netmums tip about getting them to blow up a balloon while sitting on the toilet. Uses the same muscles apparently. Thanks AMAZON, a new toilet seat (cars), a few books on the subject of poo, a balloon, and the promise of a surprise (precious petzzz) if he goes has worked wonders where no amount of stickers, stars, bribes, and pleading have worked before. RELIEF!!!

Gut erhaltenes, gebrauchtes Buch.
