Be interesting
I like to dive into some non-fiction reading off and on. This is a good one. Speeches of a great man. There’s a lot to be learned here and I like being inspired to be a better man.

Great selection of & accompanying comments about Dr. King's thoughts
A must-read! James Washington's selection of and preceding comments on Dr. ML King's speeches are definitely excellent. It is sad that Dr. King's thoughts and [nonviolent] work are not SYSTEMATICALLY TAUGHT TO OUR CHILDREN in our schools and universities, and actively referred to, debated and imparted in academic, political, and religious circles and media. Indeed, "a prophet is not revered in his country"; what a loss of opportunity for societal and individual betterment! Too bad!

A compilation of some of the most eloquent and prophetic words you will ever hear
Interestingly, I note that in the review title I wrote "hear" and not "read." Why? Because the words in this book are truly alive: reading it is like hearing MLK, Jr. himself here and speaking them today. What a gift! Although the book is not a complete compendium of all of his writings and speeches, it does contain an excellent representative sample of the wide scope of his ideas and works – not just on Civil Rights per se, but also on the Viet Nam War, domestic and international politics, the economy, and human behavior; almost all of which is as accurate and applicable today as it was 50 years ago. Why then, only four stars? Because there was one thing about the book that was a little unsettling to me. In the "I Have a Dream" speech, which I read in the book along with watching a video of the speech itself, I found some discrepancies between what was written in the text of the book and the words MLK, Jr. actually spoke. These were relatively minor, but included an omitted sentence, a couple of omitted phrases, a substituted adjective, and a pair of reversed words. Whether or not there are similar discrepancies elsewhere in the book I don't know (and maybe these are just differences between written speech notes and what he actually said), but I would expect the editing of a book like this to ensure a perfect match between what was said in a speech and what is written in the book, especially for something as seminal as the “I Have a Dream” speech. This is not a reason not to buy the book, but it would be enough to make me want to verify any direct quotes from the book in cases where 100% accuracy is essential.

This is an important read!
Growing up during the Civil rights turbulence I had many misconceptions about what was going on. I thought MLK was just a figurehead. Reading this book I realize he was a brilliant, and sensitive crusader for a just cause. This man put his life on the line against incredible odds for what he believed in. Read this book.

非暴力を貫き、志半ばで暗殺されたキング氏の言葉が集められている。 大きな時代のうねりの中で、虐げられてきた人たちのために”戦った”崇高な 精神。 暗殺によっても彼の偉大な精神を消し去ることはできない。 偉大なる人物の言葉にふれることで、自らの生き様を考えてみましょう。

Excellent book. I have a similar book but that did not have all the speech from Mr King, I especially want the ‘ I have a dream’ speech as it is so inspirational. I would recommend this book a million times over.
