The Bushings Bind Up!!!!!!!!!!!
Josh W said it best in his review - tried everything to get this to work. No matter what I tried to use WD-40, Grease, etc the brushings would stick (wedging) at the bottom and I had to pull really hard to get the drill to even want to come back up. I will be returning and looking for another alternative. Could have been fixed with a ball bearing instead of a brushing that wedges itself. My additional comments follow:1. This is not designed for heavy duty drilling. It wobbles with a bit larger than 3/8".2. The materials are very nice but undersized for drilling 3/4" holes in maple. Too much flex and as stated once the bit is down it will not return to the up position so i was forced to lift the entire unit to get the bit out of the hole. This happened over and over. I can see that many reviewers are very happy with their purchase but as for me the only way I could get it to work in a half -a$$ed way was to loosen the handles and then the bit would come up some but of course this leads to massive wobbling.3. the rods did not have female threads on the end opposite the male threads - this meant that i could not drill holes parallel to edge any further in on my work table than about 14". If the rods could be screwed together I could have drilled in at least 26" maybe a bit more.4. while the quality of materials seems very good the lack of strength lead to flex and wobble as parts seemed undersized.5. this tool is a good idea but just needs re-engineered to fix the binding problem as reported by me and others.

Kinda, Sorta Okay
First, the kit is well made, fairly hardy, but needs a few changes to give it more utility and flexibility in use. The outriggers for side-to-side alignment need to have holes drilled in all four sides of the Base. This will give the user two parallel sides to use as an alignment guide that can slide along a guide rail for repeat holes, like dog holes on a woodworker's bench. I am modifying mine by adding more holes in the base to attach parallel rails from strips of aluminum flat bar. The "Bonus" threaded hole under the angle assembly should be sized to accommodate the vertical slide bars. That way you could remove the angle assembly if you didn't need it, I don't. Screws should be either Torx or Hex Socket to avoid stripping the Phillips heads, not hard to do, oops, I did it again. The worst thing about it is the instructions. The instructions are so small, you need a magnifier to read them, color contrast between paper and printing makes it worse. Why not use a full-size sheet of paper for instructions and fold it to fit in the box. Oh wait, the box is 8.5 x 12, it would fit without folding. Overall, a neat design, MacGyver would be proud!!

Great and affordable with one catch.
Great and affordable. Arrived on time and in good shape. Only problem is one of the aluminum grip handles was cross threaded. It really shouldn’t have left the factory that way, I rethreaded the handle and stud in order to make it work. I don’t think the aluminum handle will hold up because of that and can only give 3 stars.

Sold with known defect.
Adjustment of the drill angle is facilitated by detents at every 15 degrees, and by a 1 degree scale on each side's arm, with an indicator arrow on the part that moves. The right side is fine, but the left side's indicator arrow is in the wrong place. When positioned to 0 degrees, for example, both sides exactly fit their detents, and the right side indicator shows 0 degrees, but the left side wrongly shows about a 6 degree angle. Once set to the desired angle, the handles are to be tightened, but they rub against the scale, which is not engraved, so I expect it to wear off over time, making it impossible to accurately set at any position between the detents. The instructions are also very basic, but it appears that the device has some none-intuitive controls and features, which would benefit from some explanation. As a result, I am giving this only one start. Because of the scale problems noted above, I can't see giving it more than two starts, but if the unit performs well (I haven't actually used it yet), I will come back and revise my rating accordingly.

Does not function properly
Let me start off by saying it has good fit and finish but do not buy. Does not slide up and down metal posts with easy, does not spring back up. And occasionally the whole guide seen in the pictures comes right off the brass guides and all the way off.Looks nice out of the box but does not function properly.Edit: I want to further describe the issues - because it does not slide up and down the posts smooth you have to apply an extraordinary amount of pressure which makes alignment difficult as well as you push against the stop collar and sometimes it moves meaning you won't get accurate depth.DO NOT BUY

A very well made product, but missing a few nice features
Overall, this is a good product for the money. II like the following things about the portable drill guide: - all metal construction, very sturdy - includes the extension rods & positioning blocks - adjusts for 0 ° to 60 ° angles with detents - side handles for stabilityHere are the things that I am disappointed with: - the product description said it had a 1/2" chuck, however it came with a 3/8" chuck instead - I wish it had a 1/4" hex shank instead of a round shank for attaching your drill to - I wish the stops that screw into the bottom of the base, that are used to drill a hole in the center of a board, had a storage location somewhere on the base when they are not in use.
