Not a Google translate book.
Brought this for my son, as I got him the 1st book and he liked it, it seemed obvious to get him this one.

Not as good as Almost Human
Pretty similar in a lot of ways to almost Human, I wouldn't read them both back to back anyway. Pretty good though, you'll enjoy it if you liked almost Human

powerful
The book is emotionally and mentally challenging, it also paints a scene of Japanese culture and conventions of the aristocracy which is not apparent to many western readers including me. Great book.

A very good read
I am in a book club and this book was chosen by a member. I did not know the author. The book was very well written and interesting in its detail of Japanese life

Thoughtful and thorough
This book is probably way too intellectual for me. Its like one of those books you dont quite "get" until you've read it hundreds of times. Subtlety and beauty are the order of things, yet darker symbolism and meaning (including the age old Japanese/shakespearan method of using nature to symbolise events) are also used to add depth to already deeper than deep meaning. The simplicity of this novel makes it almost perfect, yet I feel there is something lacking in the writing...a certain love, a certain something, which is hinted at yet never fully explored.

She was eating soup in the dining room. 日本独特の事物についても、 仙台平の袴を着け、→ in slightly less formal attire, 白足袋をはいておられた → but he still wore his white gloves.
