Sometimes you have to think outside of the box. I have a very old (like 35+ years old) Grim Reaper scythe. It's the first Halloween prop weapon I remember buying. The head is in great shape but the puny little 30inch plastic handle was very flimsy. So, I removed the head and purchased a 3/4 inch 6ft wooden dowel at the home improvement store. After spray painting it my favorite Halloween color (Amazon usually carries it: Rust-Oleum Metallic spray paint in Flat Soft Iron), I put the head back on and thought I was done. However, the new length makes this a perfect "walking stick" so I figured I should protect the end somehow. I was really surprised to find a rubber tip with a 3/4 inch opening. It fit perfectly and added extra stability so I can use it as a walking stick while in costume. Good thing too because nobody's afraid of a Grim Reaper using a cane! I'm really happy with the whole project.
