I bought this to recover from a total knee replacement. I’ve had multiple scopes, rotator-cuff surgeries, and other ortho procedures, and I’m done dragging around a cryo cuff with ice and water—too loud, messy, and awkward post-op. Enter the Hyperice X Knee. I wanted an occasional alternative to the ice machine, but it’s better than expected. It’s easy to turn on, cools quickly, and holds a precise, consistent temperature—never froze my incision—and I could keep it on longer without discomfort. Battery life beat my expectations, and the extra-long power cord made it easy to move around the house. The iOS app is handy and kind of cool: you can set temperature and run a Cold Therapy routine up to 20 minutes. You can’t run it indefinitely—understandable for safety reasons—but at night I can skip the app and press a couple of buttons on the device to start a 15-minute cold session. Super convenient for middle-of-the-night relief. Since getting it, I haven’t used my old ice machine once. Bottom line: for post-surgery recovery, this has been a surprisingly perfect solution even though that’s not its primary marketing angle. I’m using it as I write this and couldn’t recommend it more. Pros Easy to turn on; app optional Consistent, controlled cooling (no over-icing) Quiet and portable; no ice or water to juggle Better-than-expected battery life Long power cable = easy to move around App routines up to 20 minutes Cons Can’t run indefinitely (safety limit) Pricey—but it replaced my ice machine entirely TL;DR If you’re recovering from knee surgery and hate dealing with an ice bucket system, this is worth it. Precise, quiet, portable, and genuinely helpful.

I have been using Hyperice's products since 2014. Ice pack, massage gun, Venom, you name it I have had them all. And all their products have one thing identical - build quality is not their strong suit, but for this Hyperice X I don't really care as long as it works. I mean one would not appreciate how good this product is if you don't compare. I have used a similar product from another competitive brand side by side, and here are the PROS & CONS: PROS - 1. It is light. Not normal knee brace light but you can walk around as long as the straps are secured. I will bring it when I travel internationally since it also does not take up too much space. 2. The rubberized material between the heating/cooling modules and your skin acts as a cushion so it does not feel too bad when you want to press (strap) it hard. 3. The device can be used while it is being charged. That is very beneficial because I mostly used it while I am sitting at my desk or laying down on bed. I think the battery dies after 2-3 contrast cycles (most energy assumption) but for me it is enough. 4. The fit is good. The heating/cooling modules are close to the knee cap, which is the most effective area. 5. The fan is kind of quiet during the cooling cycle, and it turns off during a heating cycle. It sounds normal but the other product I tested the fan is always on no matter what cycle it is. The exhausts also do not blow at your shin and tight (yes the other product does). They blow sideway so it would not annoyed you. 6. App is simply and clear. I love the built-in programs. CONS- 1. The price is kind of steep even with discounts (I paid $385 after tax in Dec. 2022). I would hesitate if it was not covered by my HSA. I wanted to give it a try first. It does not meet all my expectations, but undoubtedly it is the best you can get on the market right now. If you have chronic pain in your knees then it could be more valuable for you. 2. I wish it was an USB-C. I understand it comes with a 9V charger but if it was compatible with USB-C then I could have just brought one charger for most of my other devices. 3. I kind of see it as an improvement rather than a con. I don't mind having a bigger battery pack since it is not too heavy and there is still space available. In conclusion, it is the best/budget-friendly/user-friendly/hassle-friendly contrast therapy device out there as of Dec. 2022. I can see a better version coming out in a year or two, but if I had extra cash now I would get another one.

I bought this when it was on sale over Black Friday. I'm not sure I'd pay full price, but it is very convenient and I love using the alternating hot and cold therapy. It also works much better than the ice machines that pump iced water through a pad. I wish I had had this when I had knee replacement surgery as I would have had to deal with ice and filling the tank with water. The battery life is horrible, but it works just fine while plugged in. Don't expect to get more than a single use out of the device if replying on battery power.

....and that's - get hot and cold. Contrast hydrotherapy is a simple yet effective way to speed up healing and improve circulation to the affected area. The problem is, it's a nuisance to apply a heating pad, then a cold pack, then a heating pad, etc. This unit does it for you, thus making it much more likely that you'll actually do it. It gets cold but I wish it got a bit colder. It gets very hot, hotter than I need (but it's adjustable, so not a problem) The quality is very good, it's easy to use, and the app is simple. I'm very happy with it. I use mine everyday and it's great.

I upgraded from the compression boots to this. I had ran a marathon 2 weeks ago and was experiencing some rad pain in my left knee. I was pushing through my runs when my pain came across when running. I got this device and let me say it has erased my pain within less then 5 hours of having it. The two biggest things I love are the temperature contrast therapy, and the battery life. Shorten your sessions to 15 mins and don’t do the highest or lowest temperature and you will get the most use out of the two. It’s a great device I absolutely recommend for high intensity athletes this is a GAME CHANGER. and so are the compression boots they have! also not so sure about the other knee knee brace they have that’s higher in price but this has been sufficient for me!
