I frequently use a top handle with my Sony FX3 One of the "issues" I have with this setup is that it's "inconvenient" to start recording. Having three dedicated buttons on my camera for recording is not enough I suppose. The button is easy to press. I've never had an issue of accidentally recording or accidentally stopping the recording, but I think it'd be a little bit better experience if the button had a bit more resistance. It's also a tad loose when paired with my Smallrig coldshoe adapter. That might be more of an issue with my adapter, since it fits snug with my camera's hot shoe. This solution is the only one on the market and while it's a little pricey and not perfect, I'm glad that it exists.

Product is terrible. Great idea. Terrible execution. Button gets stuck. The cold shoe mount isn’t strong enough so it slides out. Just terrible.

I have a top handle with a record button, which is very convenient when doing video shoots. It gives me a more accessible method to engage in recording rather than having to wrap my hand around the rig like I am taking a photograph. This device lets me place a record button anywhere on my rig where there is a cold shoe. A top handle, side handle, and cage all provide a place to place this button where it is convenient for the rig build you might be using. It works great with my SONY FX-30. The one issue I do have with it is the method by which it secures itself to the cold shoe. It uses a spring-mounted ball bearing to put pressure on the bottom of the cold shoe to hold it in place. This works with some and not so well with others. I have some cold shoes with a detent at the position where it should rest and since there is no flat surface to hold it in place it wriggles a bit. I have one top handle that has a flat cold shoe bottom and a safety release that prevents it from slipping out of the cold shoe which works best. It would be great if they could figure out a more secure method to lock this in place within the cold shoe.
