Great Product Delivery
Super fast delivery. Ordered Tuesday, shipped Wednesday, arrived Friday AM. Well packed. Here’s the important thing… I’ve been through 4 lanterns in the last 3 years. Coleman and Ozark Trails. They all fail the same way. On the underside of the delivery tubes there is a separate piece attached to the tube with a fine mesh screen. On all four lanterns they have simply fallen off. And when that happens you can’t light the lamp. Throw it away. So I thought I’d try Sansport and see how it goes. Otherwise I’m initially pleased with it

For $20, the single mantle is terrific! I'm using peerless 2C-HG. Minimal drawbacks.
Before I bought this, I tried a tiny generic single mantle mini lantern that attaches to backpacking gas cylinders with a mantle sticking up - it had pathetic light output for an incandescent mantle lamp (couldn't read by it!), so I returned it and spent $5 more for this one. Thankfully, this one burns like a Coleman lantern. I think having the mantle hanging allows it to balloon more reliably, which allows more surface area to glow brightly. 1) The rated candlepower or watts for the single mantle seems a little low, and it barely costs less than the dual mantle, but you can easily read by the lantern, and only need one good mantle to run it. 2) It appears that the mantle will brush the gas tube, but it shrinks down and is perfect. 3) I used a peerless mantle 2C-HG from the distribution warehouse - thorium! 4) I wish the top hat had a rod and nut so I could light it by removing the top and globe, then replacing... As it is, you need to push kind of hard on the top, and once it's lit, that gets hot. So I will probably try to light it from underneath, as designed. Back in the day, Coleman was king, but a lot of it now is not much to brag about. I don't know if Stansport had a heyday, but this lantern seems a better execution than the modern Coleman, and the price is great!

Propane and propane accessories!
For the price, these are great lanterns. Sorry Coleman but this is probably just as good, especially for the price. I bought two of these to go camping this spring. They are far brighter than and LED battery driven lantern and dimmable so you don’t waste fuel. If you get yourself a tree hanger and you can hang these around your campsite. I also attached one to a 3’ tee that attaches to a 20lb cylinder - very convenient. Don’t forget some extra mantles just in case. I plan on keeping these around for emergency use too (when power goes out) and will probably buy a few more in the spring when we go camping again. They don’t come with a travel case but I used the cardboard box they came in and had no issues. If you don’t keep them in a case it’s possible to break the glass. This is the case with any glass globe lantern so it’s not product specific. Just common sense.

gas saving one mantle lantern
This is a small one mantle lantern which runs on propane. We hook it up to a gas bottle like one might use for a gas grill. One mantle lamp is hard to find but we use it for heat to keep a small green house above freezing. Two mantles would use more gas so the one mantle saves money on gas. For our purpose, the one mantle provides enough heat to keep the plants from freezing. The lantern is well made, mantles fit it and glass replacement shades are available in case you break it.

No Base
These lanterns use mini mantels, and regular size mantels will not fit! They also fool you in the product info which states that it comes with a base (not included) that is false advertising. Why not just say it fits a Dura Base! Regular mantels will not fit so if you purchase one of these, you will have to find them elsewhere as Amazon does not sell them!

It throws a decent light for its size. And is well made.

This lantern worked fine for two months. Then, the metal rim that the mantle is attached to, fractured and fell off. I reported this problem to Stansport. This seems to be a problem with other brands of lanterns that I have tried, and Stansport was better than most.
