Great Versatile Tool That I Use With Edger Attachment…Very Pleased!
I use this with the edger attachment and have been very satisfied coming from a Stihl gas powered edger. I appreciate not having to add gas anymore and my Stihl always seems to get my hands greasy (LOL). Performance is what I expected (no drop off from the Stihl) and I’ve had no issues. I do recommend Makita batteries. I rotate 4 batteries for use with my trimmer, blower, and this edger. Spend the money on good batteries. I have 2 5.0Ah and 2-6.0Ah. Makita quality is top notch and I’ve never had any reliability issues. I’ve converted everything to Makita!

Can't beat Makita for quality
I needed a pole hedge trimmer and a pole saw for trimming my trees. I shopped around and decided on cordless devices rather than gasoline powered. I have a long history with Makita cordless tools, so it made sense for me to stick with what I know - but I did look at other brands just to see what they offer before coming back to Makita. Some Pros and Cons - Makita only offers a limited number of kit choices that include the batteries - a big minus because buying the batteries separately is expensive (I have several 18V batteries but no 5 AH size this tool requires), a big plus of the power head is that you don't have to buy multiple tools, I found this tool to be lighter that I thought it might be when assembled with the batteries and tool head, it is well made and easy to switch between attachments. I also like the fact that should the need arise, I have a large number of other attachments to choose from. I am glad that I chose the 36V model (two batteries) over the 18V. My concern was the extra weight but that turned out to be minor and the extra power is well worth it - especially for the pole saw. One big issue is the power switch - you can press it one or more times to cycle between power levels or press and hold to turn off - I found this very awkward and difficult (especially with gloves) more than once when I tried to turn it off it instead just changed the power level.

Powerful
Well made and powerful, though heavy.

Very nice, kind of pricy but I am married to ...
Very solid unit definitely lives up to the quality you would expect from Makita. It has 3 running speeds and reverse to help clear your tool in the event that it gets fouled. Very nice, kind of pricy but I am married to the Makita 18v platform I’m up to 11 tools + 1 in the 36v Only attachment I have currently for the 36v power head is the pole saw I had to modify the bar tension nut and replace the tension bolt with a real bolt from brand new before I even used it, but that’s a whole other review. The pole saw with this power head and two extensions is rock solid not too heavy and fairly easy to manipulate. I used this setup for about 90min with (2) 4 amp hour batteries and I don’t think I put a dent on those batteries tool was still running solid as when the batteries were fresh out of the charger. Plan on buying some 6 amp hour batteries and some more attachments soon... pretty cool not having to prime and choke and pull and pull and mix fuel and tote a fuel tank.... game changer

Gas no more
Too early to tell on longevity, so far so good after 30+ hours of use. I found that it will whack thick tall grasses and serious weeds on power level 2 (out of 3), giving about 20 minutes of constant use using the 4k batteries, a bit longer on the 5k. On level 3 I only get 10 minutes. So for non-stop use, you'll need a third set of batteries (and two chargers, of course). The reverse feature is great if you have lots of vines, saves tons of time. The bump wire concept works perfectly, no issue as others have written about. Weight is well distributed, lighter than a gas engine. No burning arms on the exhaust pipes either. Few minor gripes 1) the instruction manual, for those that still read them, is generic to all models and thin. 2) the battery protector is too small to insert the bottom battery. Had to be bent/ground. All around goodbye gas weed eaters.

good tool but not compatible with mtd attachments
I bought this so I could use the MTD attachments I already invested in but it didn't work, the shaft size was just different enough so it couldn't work even after modification

Powerful. Easy to handle cuts branches quickly. Excellent battery life.
Powerful. Easy to handle, it cuts branches quickly. Excellent battery life. Easier to handle than the gas-powered pole saw. I have cut through branches with a diameter as great as 10 inches. Always carry an extra chain. I also purchased two additional batteries for quick swap out and non-stop work.
